MARSHALL AND TABB MAKE TEAM OF THE WEEK
2 Coventry players have made team of the Week following their performances against Norwich. Coventry 'Keeper Marchall was teh first on the sheet for a series of fantastic saves in teh 2-0 home victory, making it 3 straight wins in the league, the other player was Jay Tabb who ran the midfield for the whole game and never tired. Coventry assistant manager Alan Shearer reported back and said he was delighted that the hard work had paid off, as the two players had worked the hardest in training all week.
MIFSUD CALLED UP
Coventry's in form striker Michael Mifsud has again been named in the Malta squad to face Turkey in the international break. Malta looking to get a win on teh board, being overwhelming underdogs in their group. Coventry manager Craig Tough has revealed he will be sending someone on his staff to watch the game.
COVENTRY CELEBRATE TOUGH'S BIRTHDAY
Coventry manager Craig tough celebrated his Birthday yesterday (4/9) by holding a huge party in his Coventry home. Tough invited all of the players and staff along with their families. He said it was the best birthday he had ever had and felt this was the point when he and the team had clicked and he said it was 'the start of a long career together' for Coventry and Tough himself, as chairman Ray Ranson, also present at the party, stated that Tough had his long term support.
TRIO BACK IN TRAINING
Coventry trio Kevin Thornton (foot), Donovan Simmonds (foot) and Julian Gray (jaw) have returned to full training and have been declared fit for Coventry's game against Sheffield Wednesday after the international break. Coventry manager Tough said he was overjoyed to finally have the players back, however, it does leave him with a large selection headache, but did say that it wasn't the worst problem to have.
BEST AND THORNTON CALLED UP
Coventry duo Kevin Thornton and Leon Best have both been called up to the Ireland U21 side to face France during the International break. Thornton, just back from injury makes his first outing in 2 months after suffering ankle ligament damage. And Leon Best in good form, off teh back of a goal against Norwich for Coventry in a 2-0 win. Ireland face their U21 counterparts France in what is set to be a very hard game for Ireland. Craig Tough revealed he will be present in the game, and snubs an invite to the England v Israel game as he wanted to watch some of his own players in international action, but did say he would go back to England to watch England against Russia in teh mid week fixture.
MIFSUD, BEST AND THORNTON ALL SUFFER INTENATIONAL DEFEAT
Coventry trio Michael Mifsud (Malta), Kevin Thornton (Irelnad U21) and Leon Best (Ireland U 21) all suffered defeat in yesterday's international fixtures. Mifsud's Malta lost 2-0 at the hands of Turkey in a Euro Qualifier whilst Ireland's U21 side containing Thornton and Best were thumped 7-0 by a very strong French side. Tough was present at the game and said the game was a great game for neutrals, however his Coventry players played the full 90 and were very disappointed to get thrashed. Tough said he was delighted to see his players gain some much needed international experience, and that he was happy that they both came through unscathed. Tough said he couldn't wait for his game against Sheffield Wednesday. England's seniors beat Israel by 4 goals to 1.
ENGLAND BEAT RUSSIA 3-1
After beating Israel 4-1 at the weekend, England made it 100% in the international break by seeing off tricky Russia side 3-1. The goals came from David Beckham and Wayne Rooney (2). Gabriel Agbonlahor made his senior debut for England. Coventry manager Craig tough was present at the game and said he was in awe of the style of football England were playing under Fabio Capello.
KYLE FACES FORMER CLUB
Former Coventry striker Kevin Kyle will face his former club and manager today as Coventry play Sheffield Wednesday in what promises to be a great game for spectators. Kyle found himself moving from the squad just a week after manager Tough arrived after being told he wasn't in the club's fans. Kevin Kyle said he was delighted at the attitude of the manager Tough and revealed that the two had been in contact ever since, and said there was no hard feelings between the two, and Kyle said 'it happens in football'. Tough has publically praised Kyle's attitude since the move and has said he deserves first team football, and Kyle said he relishes the opportunity of getting his career back on track after 2 disastrous spells at Coventry and Sunderland.
