Can we get some new umpires?

Umpires always seem under intense pressure when doing duty in the subcontinent or in Australia where the crowds are big, noisy and intimidating.

Yes, it's expected their performance to drop under pressure. But I cannot say the same for Steve Bucknor who's had plenty of experience at the top level. My guess is that he is growing too old for the job.

Solution: retire, move on and make way for younger umpires.

to tell u the truth technology may not be the answer. i mean hawk eye isn't used for referrals to LBW and it shudnt anyway coz its without a doubt not 100% accurate. on the cricket show today they talked about no-balling and how far the umpire stands from the non strikers wicket. i reckon if the ump can stand right up the non strikers wicket he'll be able to tell if its a no ball or not and will also have a better birds eye view of the pitch and field.

bucknors decision reminded me about another decision going into an ausies favour,

99 series 2nd wasim akram to langer or gilchrist cant remember but i know for a fact it was during their big partnership which won the aussies the match and the series.
clear edge when one of them was new to the crease and australia would have been 6 down for 100odd chasing 369.
moin took the catch somehow the umpire gave it not out
and the rest of the series as they say is history

Explanation for not giving that as out was that Langers bat broke at same moment the ball passed his edge. :p

Wasim is still reminded about that when he comes to commentate.

But shocker of all time will have to be Sachin given out LBW when hit on shoulder in Australia.

yeah watching that video from gilly_fan made me realize just how EVEN more bucknor needs to get checked not only for hearing but his seeing as well, the commentators on that vid said its usually a give away that a batsmen has nicked it if he looks back. Symonds did nick it and did look back LOL. go roy! champ!:)

Yeah they stand a bit away, but they nearly always get the no balls right.

that was out,
that ball was on the dive and would have hit the stumps

Thats was the one when Sachin ducked into the ball?? That one was out

yeah that was funny but i wouldve definetley given that out. if your a ump and a player ducks when he doesnt need to than it should be given out. 1 it probally would hav hit the stumps anyway if it didnt hit him.

There is one way all this can be fixed.

A Challenge system. Each team is allotted two challenges an Inning. The third umpire comes into play, and will adjudge if the batsman is out or not.

If you win a challenge, then you keep it. If you lose it, and the batsman is out, then you lose the challenge.

Say I challenged the Symonds Decision. He would have been adjudged out, and I keep two challenges in my pocket.

If he didn't nick it, however, I lose on challenge and only have one left.

The only problem is that some 3rd umpires are so biased that they do what they want to do instead of doing whats right. Example: Symonds wrongly given not-oun on a stumping.

I was watching it live, egging Pakistan on to win.
You know what the umpire said about the LAnger caught behind ?
He said that Langer`s bat cracked at exactly the same time when the ball went past and that was what the sound was about!
A real example of how a test match can change because of a wrong decision.

Umpire parker,
The worst umpire in the world today actually,
I remember he made another high profile mistake this year too,
cant remember which match or matches

Today it was nonetheless, unfortunate that when Pakistan did on the rare occasion get through the defences of Adam Gilchrist and Justin Langer, they were denied the wickets. Shortly after Pakistan had taken the new ball, Justin Langer, on 76, appeared clearly to have snicked one to wicket-keeper Moin Khan off Wasim Akram but 'home' umpire Parker ruled that not out. Australia's total then was 5 for 237, chasing 369. A decision such as that and in such circumstances of a vitally important. Test match can break the spirit of a team.

However, he too survived when it looked he should have been making his way to the pavilion. That was another blow that Pakistan had to endure. On his score of 107 and the total 290 for 5, an appeal for leg before wicket from a ball from Saqlain Mushtaq was turned down by umpire Parker. The ball had hit Gilchrist on the front foot, under the roll of the pad and he was covering middle and leg stump. Australia at this point were 79 behind and at the time of the earlier incident with Langer they were as many as 132 behind.

besides the edge might have made the bat crack,
im pretty sure wind cant make your bat crack

Will you just get over it this happened around 9 years ago
