A strong earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale was widely felt over New Zealand.

The quake was centred 50 kilometres south-east of Gisborne, on the east coast of the North Island, and was felt nearly 900 kilometres away in the South Island, according to listeners who called Radio New Zealand.

Any of our New Zealand members live around there?

That is pretty bad. 6.8 on the richter scale is shocking.

I just hope our fellow Planetcricket members in New Zealand are ok.

My uncle, aunt and 2 cousins live in NZ. Haven't heard anything from them, so they must be fine. They live in Ashburton, Christchurch which is on the South Island so i don't think they will be affected. Gisborne is on the North Island.

erm.... or possible not

That was put badly actually. I meant they haven't mentioned anything about it, but have sent emails to my mum and not even mentioned it. They sent some holiday photos through.

They live miles away. Gisborne is in the Eastland, which you can see is Northeast of the North Island. My family live in Canterbury, close to Christchurch, which is miles away and on the South Island.

I hope it was not that bad, God bless all the people.

There was reported to be one death. Which was an old woman who had a heart attack during the quake. Other than that everyone is fine.

Some office buildings also collapsed in Gisborne, injuring several people.

That's alright I guess, a shame though. Hopefully everyone here that is in NZ is well.

They should be. I don't think it caused too much disruption.
