New Zealand Innings
England carry on dominanting in overs 11 to 20

England carried on their dominance in overs 11-20 as Flintoff and Mascarenhas who both came on for Sidebottom and Anderson, bowled tightly as New Zealand limped to 35-3 after 20 overs. Only 20 runs were scored with 3 boundaries including the very important wicket of Fleming to fall during this period.

Flintoff bowled fantastically well by only conceding 1 run in his first 2 overs before Fleming smashed him for 4 off a very poor ball, but he got his own back by completely bowling Fleming in his fifth over leaving him with figures of 5-2-6-1 during his spell. Mascarenhas also bowled very tightly at the start and was very unfortunate to not get a wicket as Prior dropped Fulton on his first ball and then bowled Nathan Astle, only for it to be called a No Ball. Unfortunately, his figures were ruined when Fulton attacked the last 2 balls of his 5th over, which both went for 4.

New Zealand have certainly got to improve in their batting as this rate they won’t reach a decent total what so ever and now with Fleming gone, Peter Fulton and Nathan Astle will have to show their nerve in getting some quick runs. Also England will have to continue bowling well, if they want to constrict New Zealand which is something that Mascarenhas didn’t do in his last 2 balls and got punished.

New Zealand Innings
Panesar the destroyer!

England continued their dominance of New Zealand as they took 3 wickets at vital time when New Zealand were trying to raise the run rate. Monty Panesar came on for Andrew Flintoff and Paul Collingwood came on to replace Dmitri Mascarenhas at the other end to give a new dimension in the England bowling attack with pace coming off the ball and spin into play.

Panesar bowled brilliantly in conditions suited to his finger spin and managed to take 2 vital wickets in Fulton, bowled for 13 and Scott Styris, bowled for 0, in consecutive balls destroying any chance of a very good score being posted by New Zealand. In his spell, he went at 3 an over, which was clearly not good enough by New Zealand. Collingwood also bowled very tightly and managed to get the most vital wicket of them all in getting Brendon McCullum out, caught by Bell for 10, when he was starting to attack and give the New Zealand innings impetus and a chance to get a decent score on the board. In his spell, he went for 13 runs off his 5 overs, which clearly showed how talented he was with the ball.

New Zealand?s chances of winning the game with big score has almost certainly gone now with the 3 wickets falling and with only Vettori and Astle that can bat left, it would be very hard for New Zealand to even get close to 150 on the board and may also struggle getting to 100, which should theoretically mean England would get the win. On the hand, England will still have to bowl tight lines because the bowlers and captain Michael Vaughan would know, anything bad would be almost certainly be punished by these two at the crease, but now it is hard to see England not winning this game.

New Zealand Innings
The Fightback starts!

New Zealand clawed their way back into the match thanks to Daniel Vettori?s fine hitting against spinner Monty Panesar and Nathan Astle doing a good job until he was finally dismissed for 26. Between overs 31-40, 39 runs were scored, 24 from Vettori, with 7 boundaries but only the 1 solitary wicket fell.

Panesar stayed on to bowl his final 5 overs, something which England might regret as his lack of discipline with his spin meant he leaked 29 runs, mainly thanks to Vettori hitting 5 fabulous boundaries from real bad balls, leaving him with figures of 10-2-44-2 when really he should have only gone for about 30 compared to his first 5 overs. Ryan Sidebottom did replace Paul Collingwood at the other end and was very impressive with the ball has he managed to get 2 more maidens under his belt and the important wicket of Nathan Astle when he was ready to hit out to increase the run-rate. He ended up with 10-5-12-2, something which he will be very pleased with and has given England a great chance of winning this game.

Overall, New Zealand have only one hope in Daniel Vettori to give them a very respectable total but really if England can get another wicket, then the New Zealand tail will be exposed and then surely England can bowl them out for a very poor total. England though will now have to try and constrict anything that Vettori and Franklin can do during their time at the crease as they can score quickly, but with James Anderson and Andrew Flintoff looking certain to bowl their overs out, then it will be hard for New Zealand to score the runs.
