GCSE Results Day

'haven't' would fit

I didn't know you were doing some GCSEs

Yup. Year 11 was a big mess as I missed school from October onwards. Some went okay, Geography, Business and IT. Didn't have any of the core subjects at C or above, so went to evening classes last year to re-do them.

Really chuffed with the English 'A'. I had As for all my coursework. But that is only 20%. I thought I would have struggled with the exams. Certainly have more drive when you're paying for it.

Congratulations everyone! :clap :happy This time next year I will probably be celebrating or drowning in my sorrows. Who knows but this is what I am expected.

A* = 2
A = 4
B = 2
C = 2

Thanks guys, and congrats to you all too :D
The results that most shocked me were both Englishes (A* in Lit and 1% off an A* in Lang) and Drama (cos the A* boundary is 97% this year!!!)

Good luck with all your respective futures...

To say how much I don't like English Literature, I was surprised by my A!

I think that's a fair appraisal - I didn't work incredibly hard and had a bad day in the exam, so that's where the B came from. I've requested a re-mark, and let's see what happens though...

I did badly in English lit so i would have to agree with manee. Right i have recovered from my devestation now. I asked my teachers where they thought i went wrong and they said it was coursework. So in A level doing the coursework before it's due will be my plan of attack although I am considering just getting myself a job instead of sixth form and working my way up rather than going for something just with a nice degree. Most of the people I know who own businesses would rather employ someone with a good work history than a posh degree which did make me think why bother going back.

English Literature is all about how hard you work, imo.

Haha, I completely forgot about the poem section of the exam until the day before, and still managed to blag my way to an A. Got an A in English Language also. Should have taken Lang at 6th form and then done Journalism at Uni. Ah well, we live and learn.

Nah coursework you leave to the last minute ;)

Seriously make sure you don't have to resit it. It adds so much extra work in :(

All the important stuff I did ok in but I got no A*s which left me miffed. To say the least. I want to resit English lit but my school don't let you resit anything if you get a C or above. The only thing I got less than a C in was RE (D) and electronics (U). So I can't resit any exams.

Well, for a start, you don't need a degree. However, it does make things easier. If you don't go down the route of Uni, then you should specialise in a certain area. You won't get anywhere just floating from job to job. Education is important. Joe, if I were you I would do A-levels and take it from there. The current situation for getting a job isn't exactly brilliant, competition is quite fierce too. tbh, I think it would be foolish for someone of your intellect to not bother with a-levels.
