Another thing i do (massive sad w--ker alert)... Make a story... Play with your favourite players and build something around that. I have hardly ever played with current gen teams (except career) - i much rather play with WSC teams, the SA rebel teams, try and avoid the "blackwash" against 1984 Windies, that sort of thing.
Right now i'm taking my "Barbarians" on a tour of Africa, I set up the tour calendar in the academy: playing a odi and 3 dayer against uganda, odi and t20 against namibia, triangular odi with zimbabwe and kenya, 3 match t20 and test series against zimbabwe and 4 dayer against kenya... So while i'm really wussing out and playing against shit teams while my bowling improves, in my head i'm telling a story about how i'm a billionaire cricket-loving philanphropist who has exhumed/cloned players like bart king, tom hayward and wilf rhodes and have taken them to show the colonials how to play the game.
Very true. I've been reading Damien Fleming's book Bowlology (a VERY light read but got a few nice anecdotes and laughs) and it made me remember just how much I loved that older generation of Australian cricketers. Not that I don't love some of the current guys, but that consistency was remarkable.
With Bradman 14 you finally have the ability to play with those guys, and many other generations of other nations.
When I get back from Chile (I do have a 360 controller with me and the temptation to install bootcamp on my mac and play Bradman is very high!) I think I'll replay the 1999 World Cup semi between Australia and South Africa
