ICC Announce World Cricket League

Dubai -- Today the ICC announced the creation of the World Cricket League, (WCL) a multi-tiered league of associate countries. The league was created with the idea that with more matches, these nations can develop their cricket and maybe one day push for test-status. The nations that have qualified for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, Bermuda, Canada,Ireland, Kenya, Netherlands and Scotland.

We will definitely keep an eye out on how the tiny island nation will fair in this tournament.

News of the fixtures and squads will be released shortly.

WCL Moved To Sharjah

Dubai -- Today the ICC announced that they would move the upcoming World Cricket League Global Division One matches to Sharjah, and not Kenya as originally planned. In a statement read out by the President of the WCL, it was stated that the ICC felt Kenya would gain an unfair advantage by playing at home. They feel this would be too much of a disparity for some small countries like Bermuda and Netherlands who are not used to playing in African conditions. Sharjah has not been used as much as it has in the past and although the caliber of the cricket may not be as high as some of the great matches witnessed in the stadium, this series is promising to be a firecracker.

The fixtures and squads will be released tomorrow.

The idea of this story is good :) It will definitely help the upcoming cricket nations... I have one small suggestion, To enhance this idea further, It wud be nice to have India-A,Pakistan-A, Lankans-A so that they will get some bit more experience in international level.

Well, just my opinion.. its upto ur comfortness to proceed.. Gud Luck with this story :cheers

Kenya Threaten To Pull Out!

Dubai -- In a strange twist of fate, Kenya, the team most have picked to lift the World Cricket League title, have threatened to pull out. They feel they have been treated unfairly as they were in line to make the most of the monetary benefits from hosting such an event. To appease them, the ICC have designed to pay them reparations for any potential losses they may incur.

Nice start to the story mate . Well as Kenya have made their mind not to play in this tournament i think that Zimbabwe should get a chance as they get less opportunity to play cricket .So this tournament will give them a chance to win .

Bermuda - The Minnow among Minnows

Bermuda are definitely the big underdogs here at the ICC World Cricket League, they shocked the world when they performed well at the ICC Trophy in 2004 to qualify for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup. Poor practice facilities, over-age players, no experience adds up to a less than mediocre side. Their best chance will be against the Netherlands. In their 5 matches, they are going to have to win at least 3 and have a good run-rate to even dream of getting to the finals. A more likely place for them will be in the 3rd/4th game and even that could be difficult. Let's take a look at the squad:

The two key bowlers are Dwayne Leverock and Stefan Kelly...35 and 18 years old respectively! Kelly and Leverock mix youth and experience. Kelly, a wily fast-medium bowler uses his sheer pace to try to unsettle batsman while Leverock uses left-arm spin to undo the opposition. As for their batting, Bermuda are severely depleted. Only captain Irvine Romaine can hold his own with the bat...but who's to know what is going to happen when they face the likes of Kenya and Canada.

Only time will tell how the minnows among minnows will do in this tournament. We will find out soon as Bermuda take on favorites Kenya in the opening match of the 2007 World Cricket League.

Extra Cover
with Ravi Shastri and Sanjay Manjrekar

Ravi: Hello and welcome to Sharjah everyone! The first match of the ICC World Cricket League is almost underway between Bermuda and Kenya. This match is definitely a David Vs Goliath sort of fixture. On one side we have Kenya, favorites to win the whole thing and on the other, Bermuda, who will quite frankly be lucky to get a victory in this series. Hello Sanjay, what do you think of this series?

Sanjay: Hi Ravi, I think its important to allow Associate and Member countries of the ICC to get a chance to develop. Of that bunch, we have the top 5 Associate countries gathered in the desert to see who is the best. Who knows, if the ICC decide to expand on the ODI status of teams, these 5 will be the first to get looked at!

Ravi: Thats true Sanjay. We are very close to the start of this match, lets take a look at the lineups before we take you down to the middle for the pitch inspection and toss and for that we go to Geoff Boycott.

Geoff: Well the pitch looks like a typical wicket youd find in Sharjah. Flat, true, good carry through to the keeper. Looks like itll be a good pitch to bat first on. Let's see the result of that then. Tikolo to toss and Romaine to call. Tails is the call and tails it is!

Romaine: Well were gonna have a bat on this pitch...looks good to bat on and well try hard as hell to get a result. Thanks.

Tikolo: We would have liked to bat first but honestly, i dont think it matters much.

Geoff: Well then, the two captains are fired up! Back to you Ravi.

Ravi: Wow, that was the most fiery coin toss I have ever witnessed. Well there you have it folks. Bermuda won the toss and elected to bat first on a good wicket We will bring you the action as it unfolds!

Wel, Kenyans are still favourites though its not their home ground. Kenya and Canada have upperhand over all with Scotties after that.

Gud Luck to both the teams and hope to see gud competetive cric from Bermuda!
