Maybe that's because you weren't part of that generation where India tried variety in their jerseys and yet kept the creative juices flowing. People like us from the 90's had so much fun watching our players wear the kind of jerseys they did in that '98 Coca Cola Sharjah tournament, our 2003 WC jersey was brilliant with that tinge of black added, our 92 WC jersey was beautiful, the 96 Titan Cup jersey with the tinge of yellow, etc.

I loved the 1992 jersey. Frankly, after that it's just got worse and worse. The latest one with those swishes on the waist is just horrendous. Also, the orange on the jersey right now is so dull. They should perhaps add more neon to it.

When a player stands for himself stating that he is confident for the World Cup spot , its a good gesture .

BCCI or any board should acknowledge it . The world cup could be the result of Rahane , who knows ?

I dont think he is in the reckoning and performances in IPL should ideally not change that. We already have a problem of "too many grafters in the middle order". Rayudu, Dhoni, Jadhav (to an extent). We cant have one more in Rahane. Thats why I find Ganguly's suggestion of Pujara at No. 4 laughable. If Rahane can't fit in, how in the world will Pujara fit in?

The batting generation has changed drastically and we need players now who are flashier and have the audacity in stroke making.

To play devil's advocate, he did score a century off 60 odd balls :D

On another note, Ravi Shastri's days are numbered ?

Honestly, I would not be surprised if he gets the extension. I am sure the Australia series win will be brought up even though we should have won the other two big series as well.

India Team Squad for World Cup 2019 is announced, is it the official one or not

Official India Team Squad World Cup 2019

The World Cup squad will not be announced until post the IPL completion. This above squad is a fake one. You can confirm that by seeing Manish Pandey being featured as one of the options in the squad. Pandey is nowhere near the vicinity of getting selected in the WC squad.

Unfortunately. I really feel apart from Dhoni, Pandey is the ideal player for #4. Whenever he got chance it's normally at #5 and #6 which is not a good spot for him. Not to forget he is a gun fielder too. They keep drafting him for T20I when infact he should have been selected for One day matches.

I mostly disagree. When Pandey was given his chances, he was too slow and in a team that features Dhoni, you cannot have too many slow batters. Pandey also had the strike rotation issue that Rayudu is being blamed for, and with Pandey, the problem was a lot worser at that time. Until he resolves his strike rotation issue, he is going to find it very hard to break into the ODI team because you need players who are good at rotating strike and keeping the rate moving quick in order to setup a good launchpad.

He is a great fielder and all (that I agree) but his issues does not allow him to be in the ODI squad as of now.

If we have Rayudu, why not Pandey instead of him ? I am not against Rayudu right now, just mentioned this point because you said he was "too slow". Pandey can play with better SR than Rayudu. By the way his SR is 91 which is pretty good.

Pandey always scored well at this position in List 'A' and India'A' matches and in critical times too.

And he didn't get enough chances. He has just played 18 innings and they kept moving his position always. Agreed he didn't grab his place whenever he got opportunity but definitely he has'nt been treated well.

For any player trying to break into the middle order, be it Pandey or Rayudu or Rahane or whoever, the reasoning always seems to start with - in a middle order that already contains MSD, they would be too slow. Just goes on to show how the team is currently being decided based on MSD with attempts to mask his shortcomings

And yet, can't think of MSD sitting out with Kohli being the captain. He gets worse when MSD is MIA

That's the problem that Indian cricket has gotten into. I would say that this problem will be fixed by two things

1) Rohit Sharma becomes a full time limited overs captain
2) MS Dhoni retires from international cricket

Point 2 is likely to happen post the World Cup this year. Point 1 - in an ideal world, it should happen. But as many others (I am sure @LiveLoveABD must be chuckling) have said it here, Virat Kohli has become too powerful in Indian cricket that his captaincy wont be in any danger until he decides to give it up. It's actually going to be very interesting to see how Indian cricket moves forward when MSD hangs up his boots. His batting won't be missed on its current form (though we will always miss the peak batsman in MSD) but his inputs on the field and his maneuvering of Kohli will be hugely missed. Unless we get a good coach who can stand his ground against Kohli (one coach who fit that bill was thrown aside by Kohli's influence), I see turbulent times ahead.

Actually, the current Dhoni will also be missed whenever the team faces a difficult pitch to bat, and/or a collapse happens. The current Dhoni is perfect for handling situations like these and he would be missed for that.[DOUBLEPOST=1553189227][/DOUBLEPOST]A batsman who was fit for the no. 4 role acc. to me was Shreyas Iyer. He did play well in South Africa but was then removed from the squad.
