India Team Discussion

There is a written clause in the contract of these players which says you have to be an active Indian international and lot of brand endorsement are associated with it it which is of lacs atleast if not crores.
Very likely the reason both are delaying it. There would also be external pressure to keep going as a lot of dough is riding on it behind the scenes.

News coming in that the BCCI has sacked Abhishek Nayar and T Dilip. I actually thought they were among the better ones around.

Gill as Test captain would be disastrous. But then, who are the options, really? Gill, Pant (irregular form, but regular in the team). Bumrah- best bet, regular form, but irregular in the team considering how much cricket we play. I'd vote for Bumrah as captain, but given the workload, he needs to let go of the T20 format.

That apart, there's literally no one who can fit in as captain, unless the selectors take a left field option and have someone as a stop gap solution. The others in the fray/not on the fray include:

Kohli- last legs, probably a home farewell in England looms
Rahul- the experiment has failed a few times, they will not go back to him
SKY- not even in the team
Shreyas- decent option, but needs to be in the team
Ruturaj- a good option, but not in the team yet.

Has to be Bumrah, just based off how the team performed under him in Australia. The worst thing India did in the series was bring Rohit back, poor captaincy and basically playing a player down with his complete lack of form. As an Australian it was a relief after Perth that Rohit was coming back in.

It's not coincidence the 2 matches Bumrah captained, India smashed Australia in Perth, and than if he wasn't injured in that 4th innings, the test in Sydney could have had a very different outcome. Only concern would be his age combined with his history of injury, and the massive load on him being India's best quick in all 3 formats by a mile, would it be too much for him?

The next issue would become, who is his vice, for when he does inevitably get injured. Does feel like India have a lack of leaders in their test team at the moment. At least a lack of leaders that won't be playing their final match within the next 2 years.

Thank you once again for that
Edit: I just replied that to an Australian, you all know what I actually meant

What about that uncapped wicket keeper dood from CSK?? From Jharkhand I guess, he seems he has captaincy potential. Doing decently in Gaikwad's absence, and also as a young uncapped player has a bright future ahead of him.

If not Bumrah, bring back Shreyas Iyer and make him captain. Gill has been disappointing in Tests for some time now, despite a good home season. Wouldn't make sense to make him captain now.
