Nice to see Rahul sticking along when the big guns failed. Knowing that he won't be dropped will ease his mind further. Very happy to see Vihari in the team as well. Time for them to show the selectors they are here to stay.

Time to move on with Rohit if this side settles down with some consistency at their back. Unless Kohli doesn't make unnecessary changes we should stick to a particular team.

Pretty much the best lineup you could have selected from the players available.

I think Ashwin deserved a go as the first spinner especially in test format. I know he hasn't finished the last 2 away tours due to injury but I did feel he was bowling very well in both England and Australia before he got injured. Also his record against WI is amazing both with bat and ball so I am definitely disappointed that he didn't make the final 11. I also feel for Saha because in test format, I really feel you need a specialist keeper who can bat and not the other way around. I am not against Pant because his batting is much better than Saha but his keeping is nowhere near Saha and you need to have a proper keeper in test cricket.

Coming to the match, it was always going to be difficult in the first session considering how the conditions were but it's frustrating that we always have Kohli in so early most of the time. Most of the time he is in before 10th over which is not ideal but WI bowlers did bowl very well. One thing that Kohli can improve on is soaking the pressure. He is so good that he is always looking to keep the scoreboard ticking but sometimes he attacks wrong deliveries due to that mindset. He could have easily avoided the delivery today that he got out on but he just didn't want to miss the opportunity to get a boundary toward the third man area.

Rahul has looked good so far and has been disciplined which is good to see. As I said before, this is going to be a big series for Rahane. He has to get some big scores in this series to keep his place in the line-up.

A bigger critic of Ashwin, you will not find in this world, let alone the forum. I dislike him with a passion but this is exactly the sort of rubbish that has been going on in away tours forever. I had recommended a 6-4-1 formation in SENA countries. It is stupid to not have a proper second spinner in WI. Ashwin is perfectly capable of batting at 6/7 in WI and I for one don't rate this Vihari fellow one bit.

This is exactly the bogus selection that has gone on for ages. Ashwin deserves to play here and play as the primary spinner/all-rounder. Rahane looks so much disciplined today. Actually watching him bat like this after a long time. Probably the first time after the Dharamsala Test against Australia back in 2017. And Rahul is consistently taking blows on his body. Good to see him survive for so long after ages.

Again, all that talk of playing attacking cricket? These are the conditions and opposition to play that brand. The reason we were advocating the safety first approach in SENA countries is because we were taking 20 wickets. We just weren't making enough runs.

He has 4 centuries. But previously the pitches were actually spin friendly. But against England they had seaming tracks. Even this one has fair bit of bounce in it. The spinners are yet to bowl much on this pitch so can't say anything.
