India's tour of West Indies - July/August 2016

^^Shami is definitely going to play. Bhuvi can only be the backup seamer

The current Indian selection policy is baffling. Ishant is a liability on these tracks and he is`nt good with reverse swing either. Also, Shami should`nt be ahead of Yadav in the test match lineup. If people actually throw the limited overs crap away, Yadav was better than Ishant in the SA tests and he actually broke through the SA resistance at Delhi in what was the last test match India played! How do we manage to confuse test match form with LOI form is ridiculous. Guys like Binny making it into the squad is pathetic as well. This is demoralizing for a fast bowler that Binny gets the nod ahead. Ishant is useless with the old ball and Yadav with his pace can make a difference there. You need to back bowlers who are aggressive in test cricket. This is not T20 where you just want to contain the opposition.

Binny should be nowhere near any Indian side. He is at best a Ganguly-like bowler and a batsman much worse than Bhuvi. Its a waste of a spot. Why do selectors in every country go against what the supporters think is the right side!

Not a big Ishant fan but he was the highest wicket taker in the test series last time India toured West Indies. He took 22 wickets in 3 tests against a relatively stronger West Indies batting line-up.

Look at the last test series India played. Yadav was by far the pick of the pace bowlers. This is unfair to a guy who was good in his previous test series. Such random selections show that we still mix up our limited overs performances with our test match performances. We might ruin Yadav and Aaron in test cricket without giving them a continuous run, something which the legendary Ishant Sharma has got. Ishant has been playing for close to a decade now and yet he can hardly be classed as average. Yadav, Aaron and Shami should be given an extended test match run. Lets not confuse test cricket with ODIs/T20s here. We did the same with Sreesanth who was an excellent test match bowler. Yet, we would keep confusing his expensive ODI spells with his test match ability.

Also, I don't think Shami deserves a spot ahead of Yadav either. Shami is a terrific ODI bowler but I don't think he deserves a test spot ahead of Yadav. Our selection is all messed up.

Ok, but Jadeja hasn't really batted that well in previous series he played, though he had score a fifty in the tour match. I wouldn't really regard him as a batting allrounder but a bowling allrounder. He has appeared to lose his touch in the last few months. I never really liked Stuart Binny that much. He can bat, but doesn't bowl that well. (Seriosly, look at his stats)

I don`t care. It has to be anyone but Binny. Its unfair to a regular bowler like Mishra/Yadav or someone like KL Rahul that this clown keeps finding a place ahead of them as a so-called allrounder.

To be fair, while Umesh was better than Ishant in the last test series India played (5 wickets vs Ishant's 1), BUT

Ishant was also better than Umesh in the series before that against Sri Lanka (5wkts vs Ishant's 13 SR of 13)

So its not that blasphemous.

Even in the series in SL, Umesh did get some crucial wickets. However, even by that extension, Shami and Binny ahead of Yadav is not fair at all. Shami has`nt played test cricket for ages and yet we pick him ahead of a guy who was finally showing some test match form against SA. The wickets that he got at Delhi were a treat to watch.

Shami was amazing before the injury. He was our main bowler. Even Dhoni had said and even Kohli has said that when Shami is fit, he will be right back to the squad. Aftreall, they know about the player's capabilities than we do. Ya, Shami hasn't played since past one year. So what ? He was in good form before the injury and hence he is picked.

Mishra and Ashwin are playing. Jaddu is missing this match. Wow. This will hurt my fantasy team.

Going with 5 genuine bowlers. Considering Dhawan's form and Saha's batting, we need Vijay, Kohli and Rahane to bat really well.

I`m happy with the team selection. It is positive and shows an intention to win. Bunny is never going to be an all-rounder for you. If you have to depend on Bunny`s batting abilities, you might have lost the game anyway. I`m glad we`ve gone in with 5 genuine bowlers. This is something you might have never seen with the Dhoni-style captaincy. Going in with 5 bowlers on a greenish track in the first test of an overseas tour.

Also, we tend to miss another fact regards the WI side. WI in home tests have`nt been hopeless. NZ, England, SL and Pakistan were all unable to win their most recent test series in the Carribean. WI seem to find a way to beat sides at home. We would be foolish to not keep that in mind.
