New Zealand Domestic Season

Otago have signed two pretty random English pros for the HRV cup, Darren Stevens and Chris Nash.

Both are batting all-rounders.

Otago Cricket - Nash and Stevens Named as Overseas Professionals

I guess low profile English domestic players are quite common now, because it's their winter over there, and they won't be away on international duty, plus they won't have to fork out too much money to bring them down here.

I remember Auckland doing is with Croft, I think two seasons ago.

Even some of the higher profile English players come here to boost their chances of making the team - Mascarenhas, Napier, Bopara.

It will be interesting to see how they go

They had already said they wouldn't be going for any superstars but Nash and Stevens? :laugh Never heard of them.
Where's all that CL2009 money I wonder?

BTW we made Jonathan Trott who he is today ;)

Zimbabwe is pretty safe now, not sure why some teams are reluctant but NZ should be alright.

That's not really a 'A' Team tbh, most of those players play for the blackcaps in test matches. They really just rested the star players.

Both of them are actually pretty good players, i mean they aren't Bopara and Napier esque. But they will do a good job for you. After this seasons performance would probably list Stevens as either a bowling A/R or a pure A/R where as Nash is more of a batsman.

James Franklin (capt), Graeme Aldridge, Brent Arnel, Nick Beard, Dean Brownlie, Daniel Flynn, Martin Guptill, Gareth Hopkins (wk), Jamie How, Peter Ingram, Tim McIntosh, Chris Martin, Jeetan Patel, Bhupinder Singh, Reece Young.

Three specialist spinners in an 15 man squad?
Bhupinder Singh's a real wildcard.

I would of though Hopkins or How would have got the nod as captain with their domestic experience, ahead of Franklin who I don't recall doing any.

And there's only 3 specialist pacers, not including Franklin. I suppose given that it is Zimbabwe, the pitches will really suit spinners.

Good to know. We'll toughen em up for yous.
Knowing us, they'll come back and be shoo ins for the England test team ;)

Mascarenhas still hasn't played a test. :spy
Yeah we couldn't do too much about that. We were forced to work with what we were given and chose to make him a limited overs specialist.
These guys on the other hand and more like Jonathan Trott material.
