India and England in poised balance!

India and England in poised balance!

It has been an exhalirating first 15 overs of the second semifinal here at The Oval between India and England! England who won the toss and decided to bat, have run away to 82 runs but in the process, have lost 3 wickets which has tilted back the balance to the middle! Andrew Strauss and Trescothick started off superbly smashing the Indian opening pair of Irfan Pathan and Lakshmipathy Balaji to the cleaners! Strauss was the most flamboyant of the two, caressing Balaji for two superb boundaries - one through the midwicket and one to the third man fence!

shots45zf.jpg

Against the grain of play, Strauss was adjudged LBW off the bowling of Irfan Pathan! It was a vicious incutter from Pathan and Strauss shuffled across the line and played onto the ball and was hit on his thigh! The replays proved inconclusive as Strauss trudged back to the pavilion probably thinking that he was hard done by! Micheal Vaughan then joined Trescothick who probably looked less attacking today, trying to score runs off singles and two's. Vaughan stamped his authority into the match hitting a six off Balaji and was scoring at over run a ball! Just then, Trescothick trying to emulate Vaughan, mistimed a lofted cover drive and the fielder at cover made no mistake in latching on to the catch!

Kevin Pietersen was the next man to come in, and more surprisingly, the next man to go too! Pietersen's aggressive tactics can always not work out everyday and he came to know of that today when in a rush of blood, he tried to clear the midwicket boundary but instead holed out to the midwicket fielder inside the circle! It was absolutely mindless cricket from Pietersen who probably should have given support to his captain, especially after the fall of two quick wickets that of the openers!

pietersenout3ix.jpg

At the end of the 15th over, England are placed at 82/3 ! Zaheer Khan was the chief wrecker with 2 wickets, that of Marcus Trescothick and Kevin Pietersen! The wicket is getting more turn and it should be good news for Harbhajan Singh and part timers like Sehwag and Tendulkar. If India can restrict England to a total between 250-270, then they would have done themself a lot of favor!

England set India 261 to win!

India require 261 runs to enter final!

England have lost more wickets than they should have to finish what would be 20-30 runs short of what they expected at the end of the 25th over! After the 15th over, Harbhajan and Tendulkar tightened things up for India by bowling a tight line and length to the England batsman! Vaughan and Solanki kept scoring at a good clip but couldnt brea the shackles due to discplined bowling by Harbhajan Singh and Sachin Tendulkar! Vaughan meanwhile reached his 50 with a four through midwicket!

vaughan508sz.jpg

Vaughan and Solanki shared a partnership of 80+ before Solanki was trapped LBW in front by Harbhajan Singh. Vaughan followed soon after when Tendulkar produced a surprise ripping leg break to clip Vaugha's leg bails! It was a great ball from Tendulkar who often comes up with some great turning stuff! Flintoff and Jones then led the recovery with some really quick batting. But Flintoff couldnt sustain long as he was also done in by a Tendulkar special, this time a fizing googly to slipped through the gate to be bowled for 26! Giles was run out when he got into a terrible mix up with Jones and Tendulkar, again the hero, threw down the stumps at the striker's end to end Giles innings! Jones carried on hitting a huge six off the bowling off Harbhajan Singh

gones62ko.jpg

Gough too had merry, spanking a few shots but the total in the end looked insufficient and could look to be 20-30 runs short of what can be a challenging total! But still, its game on as India are known to choke under pressure situation and a World series semifinal is no less in big match pressure! For India, Tendulkar was the chief destroyer with 2/31 from 7 overs as Ganguly and Zaheer Khan too chipped in with 2 wickets each!

Australia vs New Zealand

Just when McMillan started to look dangerous, a blinder from Lee which McMillan had no idea and defended, cracked the off stump and the stump flew miles away.

A very fast delivery from Lee and New Zealand lost their fifth wicket and are now 72/5. New Zealand have lost all their recognised batsmen now.

Awesome start for India and England!

Awesome start for India and England - MATCH ON!

start4pn.jpg

It has been an electrifying start for both India and England! Who could have imagined an out of form Sehwag carting Darren Gough for 4,4,6,1,1,4 in a single over? It happened today in the 5th over of the innings when Gough came on to bowl! The first ball, Sehwag lofted to the deep mid on fence for four! The second ball was an imperious flick through midwicket for four. The third ball was MAXIMUM! - a SIX! over third man a'la Centurion 2003 style by Sehwag! The fourth ball was a single and the fifth ball was a single from Sachin with the sixth ball being despatched over mid off for another four!

sehwagsachshots1sf.jpg

Sachin at the other end also joined the fun, carting a few boundaries! But as it has always happened, there had to be a twist in the script and the twist came in the form of Steve Harmison! In what was a hallmark over, Harmison prized out both Tendulkar and Mohammed Kaif in beautiful fashion! It was a fatal leave by Tendulkar to a Harmison special off cutter that crashed into the stumps leaving Tendulkar dazzled! It was never expected of the world's best batsman to leave a delivery like that! Kaif played 3 deliveries well but Harmison had his man when he dropped in a short delivery which Kaif tried to cut but instead edged it to the keeper, Geriant Jones!

well..looks like..aus/ind final..

Well not yet, not yet! Dont jump into conclusions! Twists are bound to happen and here is a potential one!

ENGLAND ROCK THE OVAL - INDIA 100/5 (20 OVERS)

score20overs3ss.jpg

Steve Harmison, Darren Gough and Kevin Pietersen have combined together to put England right on the top in the driver's seat! In a brilliant cricketing display, England have seized the initiative from India and now look to be in the right direction to meet Australia in the final of this grand tournament! After India were 47/2, Sehwag and Dravid put on a few valuable runs before Sehwag was in a terrible mix up with Dravid and was rightly sent back to the pavilion! Sehwag called for a non existent single and Dravid sent him back but Pietersen's throw was too hot to handle and Sehwag was run out for 38 off 29 balls!

sehwagout6ug.jpg

Yuvraj then played a few positive shots in the middle along with Dravid. Yuvraj greeted Anderson by dispatching him into the stands for a huge six that landed 6 rows into the stands! Dravid too played a few positive shots that kept the Indian hopes going!

yuvisehshots2na.jpg

Harmison produced a gem of a ball again to dismiss Dravid for 14! It was a short of a good length delivery and Dravid tried to play a backfoot drive shot to the delivery but instead edged it straight to the point fielder. It was a big blow for India and a huge huge wicket for the England players as Dravid has recently been the rock gilbrator of the Indian batting lineup! Yuvraj followed soon after when he played a Gough yorker too early and ended up top edging the ball to the waiting mid off fielder! In the space of a few minutes, the contest turned on its head with the fall of Yuvraj and Dravid! Ganguly and Dhoni are now out there in the middle hoping to rescue India from the downfall!

England on the brink of crushing victory

England on the brink of crushing victory

England are on the brink of a crushing victory over the in form team of the tournament, India! India who were 100/5 after 20 overs are now 128/7 at the end of 25 overs and staring heavily at a crushing defeat! Saurav Ganguly is not out on 25* off 28 balls! His innings has been in total contrast to what the other batsmen who batted along with him dished out! His best shot was the imperious flick off his bitter rival, Flintoff to square leg!

ganguly48sd.jpg

Dhoni could not survive for long as he was beaten superbly by a Flintoff special! Flintoff bowled a great outswinger and Dhoni was surprised by the pace and missed the line off the ball! Hawk eye proved the ball was not going to take anything else other than off stump! Dhoni was out as India slumped in further ignonimy!

dhoniout2ag.jpg

Next to go was Pathan and this time it was Gough who came to the party! The England bowlers have been regularly inducing the edge of the Indian batsmen and Pathan faced the same fate! He edged a Gough delivery low to Jones who produced a brilliant catch to dismiss Pathan for nought!

pathanout3bw.jpg

Ganguly is trudging on and is finding no support from the other end! It remains to be seen for how long can this Indian batting line up last!

Australia vs New Zealand

New Zealand again has a good partnership going on between Marshall and McCullum as they added 39 runs in 10 overs and took the New Zealand total to 111/5 in 25 overs. McCullum has looked aggressive as he smacked Lee out of ground for 6 over long-on. Marshall on the other end has looked to pick singles with boundaries in between.

11de.jpg

Right now both batsmen have looked set and if they can hang around for another 15 overs the New Zealand will have a very good chance of posting a good total. Aussies need to pick one more wicket quickly.

Indian juggernaut ends - England meet Australia in final!

India stopped on their tracks - England enter final!

englandwin4uz.jpg

FINALLY!!!! India have been stopped on their tracks in a heart breaking fashion as England enter the final of this tournament, where they most probably will meet Ashes rival Australia in what is going to be the most pulsating final of recent times! India who were 128/7 and out of the game, fought for pride and in the process got some good easy runs! Ganguly reached his half century and slogged merrily!

ganguly507ho.jpg

Harbhajan at the other end, was trapped by Flintoff when he edged him to Jones behind the wicket who has had a fantastic day behind the stumps! Ganguly then slogged merrily with Balaji before he was bowled by Andersen to snatch the life out of India's miserable innings. Ganguly went for the wild slog and missed the ball to hear the sound of his off stump rattled!

bhajjiout0dn.jpg

gangulyout0pd.jpg

Steve Harmison was the star bowler for England picking up 3 wickets! Gough ended up bowling 13 overs (didnt notice the bowling bug!). It was a truly professional performance by England who now get another chance after the 92 World Cup to win a major trophy!

Bad luck for India. They were playing so well in the tournament. Well Australia havenot won their semi-final yet but if they do then England will be a very tuff team to beat in the finals considering their current form.
