He was our best batsman away from home. He was absolutely critical in our many series we played outside India and the subcontinent, which marked the turning point of Indian cricket as a whole in this generation.

There is a lot more to it than just averages and statistics, Tum Tum.

Do you understand the title of this thread? :facepalm

Yeah the Adelaide test was great for him, he played more fluently than usual, but its not his normal game. Fast forward a few months in Pakistan and he was very slow even though Sehwag was on 300 at the other end!

Ive seen every Dravid test innings since his debut, not very often has he been especially fluent, but it has happened!

Are you seriously trying to say that Rahul Dravid isn't a serious contender for being one of the greatest players of the decade, Tum Tum?

Duh? :doh

To tell you the truth, Dravid is not even in the Top 10. I would put Sachin Tendulkar ahead of him.

Kallis easily. Don't even bring Sachin into this. Ponting is Kallis's only competition, but Ponting didn't take 175 wickets though, so Kallis wins.

Jacques Kallis hands down :hpraise

He's been great with both bat and ball in all forms of the game. It will be really tough for SA to replace this man when he retires.

Ponting became the player and captain with the most wins ever. EVER! also went through two would cups undefeated as captain and won two champions trophies all this decade. If captaincy is so easy and Punter is so crap then why isnt anyone else reaching his highs? Sure he's had a good team but he never had Warne for any of the big one day wins. I'd say that goes some way to equalling or bettering Kallis taking 175 wickets.

Well I agree, Ponting or Kallis is the best this decade.

I'll do a points system comparison:

Ponting
Batting out of 10 - 10
Bowling out of 10 - 0
Fielding out of 5 - 5
Captaincy out of 5
- 5

Kallis
Batting out of 10 - 9
Bowling out of 10 - 6
Fielding out of 5 - 3
Captaincy out of 5
- 0

Ponting = 20
Kallis = 18

If I'll do point system comparison then,

Ponting
Batting out of 10 - 10
Bowling out of 10 - 0
Fielding out of 5 - 7
Captaincy out of 5 - 6

Kallis
Batting out of 10 - 10
Bowling out of 10 - 7
Fielding out of 5 - 6
Captaincy out of 5 - 0

Both are Equall

Both Fielding and Captaincy are out of 5 :doh

And there is no way Kallis matches Ponting when batting is concerned, he has never got 200, as many runs or centuries in both forms :facepalm
