I am a fast bowler and have no problems bowling fast deliveries...Although when I try to bowl slower ones, they always go wides! I have no clue why though. Any help??

Thanxx:)

When trying to bowl fast you hold it just shy of the edge of your fingers. When bowling a slower ball, the ball should ideally reach upto the middle of your middle finger. You must hold it a little tighter.

However, you could trying bowling a faster leggie/offie. I love doing that.

Just hold bowl more tightly and try to hit batsmen on full. Finished end of advice.

I'm not exactly brilliant at slower balls but pretty good with mixing them in. It can really range from person to person on how you do it.

- Grip: The main aspect of slowing the ball down is with the overall grip of the ball and if combined with a minor later release, it works really well.
- Release: Sometimes you release it a little later than usual but it's not the easiest method.
- Spin: Spinning the ball as you're releasing and just bowling at the same pace usually works.

Just the things I do when I attempt slower balls.

The slower ball release is the hardest for any fast bowler to control. My first suggestion is to just stand and 'bowl' with your split fingered grip. Focus on line first, that's easiest. Get into a rhythm and then try out length. Patience is a virtue.

what sort of grip do you use when you are bowling a slower ball?

In any case you need to grip the ball hard.Try to use your wrist more than your elbow..It'll definitely help you.
Anyway KX If you bowling by S Akhtar or B Lee pace then you don't need slower bowl..Just bowl yorker at 150 and get batsman out..:D:cheers

I always try some new stuff when playing on street (in pak), with the ball ofcorse, my batting sucks, :(.

Trust me its far different in reality and KX is probably talking about indoor cricket which is even more difficult. The ball and the surface are different and with the lack of space your run up and action has to be adjusted.

I am talking about indoor cricket indeed:) I don't have a lot of problems with the run up and action even though it is wayyy shorter than my usual action.

So this is how I do it...I just hold the ball tight and bowl with my usual way??

I prefer Leg Cutters to sloweballs.
Not only do they come alot slower out of the hand, they move off the pitch and you don't need to slow your arm action.

hold the ball like you would normally.

When you are about to release the ball, just roll your fingers across the left side. Thats it. I find my accuracy to be alot better then a regular "loosner".

They say leg cutters are hard, I find them easy. I find off cutters to be tougher though.

Dont bowl usual way. You'll end up bowling half tracker. As i said earlier try to hit batsmen on full.

I just leave ball loose when I release it.

you might want to try two things, try holding the ball like a regular grip but split your fingers more almost halfway down the ball its harder to control but it works and sometimes the ball dips as it get close to the batsman.

or you can try pushing the ball into you palm as much as you can, don't really know the proper way to hold that but as you push the ball into your palm the ball will come out slower when you bowl it than holding it with you 2 fingers when bowling a regular delivery.

Oh yes, aim at about off stump and really full. The fuller the better.

Slowerball yorkers own. Irfan Pathan from '06 specialty :)
