T20 World Cup 2012

Last i heard he was injured. If not i am not sure n dont know y hyatt and powell got a play over him.

Yea well unless this cricinfo article is wrong: IPL news: Kevon Cooper to miss rest of IPL | Cricket News | Indian Premier League 2012 | ESPN Cricinfo - he should have recovered already.

Harris is in the 30. Laughlin is...interesting, especially given who's been left out. He bowls at the death a lot doesn't he for Hobart? Someone should have asked Inverarity about him at the press conference.

My mistake, i meant why was Harris not included in the squad that going to the UAE, even though he is in the 30 probables list.

Thats worrying because i think his experience becomes key now in Lee's absence. If they not going to give him valuable match practice in the UAE, i'm not too sure if he is going to make the T20 W-Cup squad.

Pietersen isn't in the England T20 provisional squad, yesterday I wondered at times if he wasn't trying to "show off" his limited overs batting abilities and ended up more like he had limited abilities full stop.

England's provisional 30-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 in September: Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire) (Capt), James Anderson (Lancashire), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Gareth Batty (Surrey), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Ravi Bopara (Essex), Scott Borthwick (Durham), Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire), Danny Briggs (Hampshire), Jos Buttler (Somerset), Alastair Cook (Essex), Steven Croft (Lancashire), Steven Davies (Surrey), Jade Dernbach (Surrey), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire), Craig Kieswetter (Somerset), Michael Lumb (Nottinghamshire), Stuart Meaker (Surrey), Eoin Morgan (Middlesex), Graham Onions (Durham), Samit Patel (Nottinghamshire), Matt Prior (Sussex), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Ben Stokes (Durham), Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire), James Taylor (Nottinghamshire), James Tredwell (Kent), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Luke Wright (Sussex).

T20s and Raina go hand in hand, an average of 31 in 25 matches is nothing to pass up. The tournament is quite short and it won't hurt Zaheer's Test career in anyway, and Ashwin, he's still our best spinner.

Dinda, Yadav, sure, don't know about the other to being 'potent'.

What has Zaheer done to be worthy of being in the T20 team ? He has had poor IPLs. Just on grounds of being the spearhead of the team in Tests and ODIs, one cannot expect him to simply waltz into a T20 side.

If those two Irfan and Praveen get their swing back, they are pretty much lethal and can zip through any good line-up in the world. My vote goes for them as they can bat too.

Ojha has standards now, what.

Can't help if you cannot see the obvious. Pragyan has a better flight and could bamboozle batsmen with it. Ashwin is good, but is afraid of attacking. His performances for CSK have been great, wont deny, but Pragyan is a far better bet than him.

Despite all this, I feel that Ashwin will get the nod on account of his batting abilities as well.

Ojha is good, but stop making him out to be this world class spinner that has been kept in the shadows because he doesn't play for CSK. That's certainly not the case.

How long do you expect Zak to play for us ? The guy has never really done well in any of the T20s we have played. Plus, he was not even a part of the winning T20 squad in 2007. The additional benefit you get with Praveen and Irfan is that they can be used as all-rounders as well.

As for Pragyan- Okay I agree ,he aint world class. But neither is R Ashwin. All I am saying is give Pragyan a few more chances. People aint giving him enough chances and thats generally what happens with our team. Yes, I am bashing MSD for his addiction to selecting and backing CSK players- however no one can deny that this is the reality.

If Irfan can keep up his bowling effort of the first ODI against Sri Lanka, he should be a sure shot for this T20 WC tournament. He is a very safe fielder in the outfield, a more than reliable bat. He would be the perfect allrounder India needs. And Irfan won us that T20 WC in 2007 in that final match.

Zaheer is too slow and less athletic for this format. And we can preserve Zaheer for the test matches but not playing him in T20's. Zaheer probably has a year or two of international cricket to go (considering his fitness level and his attitude level towards fitness).

Is it just me or others feel the same0 Zak has put on a lot of weight. He is definitely looking different, more so due to his hairstyle, but you cannot miss his paunch.

I'd still choose class players over specialists. kallis was a gun at one of the world T20s and amla is one of the best batsmen in the world right now.

agree about parnell though, he's not really done very much for a while.

I'm as big a fan of Van Der Merwe as anyone, but there's only so long you can sling in darts with a round arm and swing the bat without looking, so that it comes off in T20 Internationals. Just ask Michael Yardy. Good domestic player yes, good International player, not so sure.

Kallis is fine in T20s. His batting works good in that format as an anchor-type opener like what Jayawardene does.

But picking Amla in T20s is a bit like England picking Cook - crazy.

Levi is the proteas versuib Gayle, so him and Kallis would open. Having Kallis and Amla in a T20 top 3 is risk SA didn't have to take, especially when you got shot gun players like Ingram and Miller around.

Essentially the selections of Ontong/Behradin, Amla and Parnell over Ingram, Miller, McClaren comes across as quota.

I'm sure if De Lange was fit also, he would have missed out anyway as well to Tsotsobe. Overall this is disappointing since i think the Proteas would have a brilliant T20 team if the right players were picked.

Yea is batting is a bit wild, which is essentially what costed him a place. But his bowling internationally was always solid. In SRI conditions reckon he would be a very good back-up to the Botha/Peterson spin combo.

ICC World Twenty20 2012 : Jacques Kallis will play the World Twenty20 for South Africa | Cricket News | ICC World Twenty20 2012 | ESPN Cricinfo

Predictable poor and questionable T20 squad from the Proteas.

Where is David Miller, Ryan McClaren, Roloef Van Der Merwe and Colin Ingram??

Amla, Parnell one of Ontong/Behardien, really don't deserve to be in that squad.

Yeah there's a few odd ones there...
I'd have gone with something like this:
1 Richard Levi
2 Graeme Smith
3 Jacques Kallis
4 AB de Villiers
5 JP Duminy
6 Morne van Wyk/Faf du Plessis
7 Roelef van der Merwe
8 Johan Botha
9 Morne Morkel
10 Dale Steyn
11 Rusty Theron

Albie Morkel
Colin Ingram/Hashim Amla
Tsotsobe
Imran Tahir

India: MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Irfan Pathan, R Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, L Balaji, Piyush Chawla, Harbhajan Singh, Ashok Dinda

Overall a good side. Will be interesting to see how Yuvi goes. Balaji is a good inclusion for me. Same with Dinda. Don't really get what Harbhajan, Chawla, Manoj Tiwary are doing there. We could have gone with Ashwin-Ojha. I don't really rate Tiwary that high. Zaheer could have been rested and Yadav should have been there. Irfan had to be there after his comeback series in SL, and his inclusion is a good one.
