Sri Lanka have a huge opportunity to wrap up this series considering the SCG is their happy hunting ground. Fantastic performance by Sri Lanka with bat, ball and especially in the field. Dilshan was brilliant in the field and pathetic calling between the wickets as well. the highlight of the match was the Symonds stumping. Absolutely brilliant doosra by murali which completely bamboozled him.

OH THAT IS EXTREMLY RIDICULAS!

Dilshan didn't even get man of the match. That is absolutly stupid. Not that Sangakara didnt deserve it.

Honestly, I can't believe this, who votes for this stuff? He made a quickfire innings with the bat, 4 run outs, a catch and some cheap overs.

Can someone explain to me what else he had to do? Bah!

What I've been discussing tonight is how we really missed the second innings skills of Bevan and Lehmann tonight. Clarke's gameplan was to push singles and look for boundaries, look to accelerate at the end. He needed to use the slightly more precise Bevan gameplan; get the required run rate down, bat out the match.

He kept hitting hard, trying for boundaries, which meant opportunities to make 2 became singles.

Speaking of bowlers, I have to ask, if we all know that Adelaide and Sydney are tracks that suit Sri Lanka's spin bowlers, WHY DO WE REFUSE TO USE ONE OF OUR OWN? Our attack is hardly so amazing right now that we couldn't maybe bring in MacGill and have either Hogg or Hopes as the sub.

I agree with you there, it would have been an intelligent decision, Sangakkara batted nicely, but in time, we will really only remember that Australia got run out a lot.

you have to wonder...though i dont think the selectors can just randomly draft players into the squad without an adequate reason (ie injury, personal reasons etc.)

Did I miss something, or is Hogg not a spinner?

That only applies to ICC organised tournaments.

I'm pretty sure i read somewhere on the CA website that there were guidelines for Trevor Hohns and co. in relation to the drafting of players into the VB squad after its initial selection. I think i read it in relation to Mick Lewis joining after McGrath ruled himself out of the VB Series finals.

Cricket Australia may have their own guidelines, but they are not covered by ICC regualtions on this, so they can change their guidelines to suit themselves.

Congratulations to Sri Lanka, they played extremely well today and fully deserved it. Australlia have been leveled with and congratulations to them!

ok then...

but the impression i got from what i read is that the Australian selectors would not have been able to draft in MacGill like angryangy suggested.

For a start, the selectors can draft a guy into the squad quite simply, by saying, "Brett Dorey, we aren't going to use you for the rest of the series, goodbye." The point isn't that they can't bring MacGill back to ODIs, it's that they would consider Warne if he was available, but MacGill is somehow untouchable (check his stats for List A matches).

Hogg is an alright spinner, but he's our 3rd best guy (if that, what with all these rookies like Dan Cullen) and an all rounder. MacGill is a much better spinner and a genuine wicket taker. If these pitches are so predictably good for the slow bowlers, I don't see a problem with having both Hogg and MacGill in the side, because the fast men certainly don't look too threatening and it's ridiculous to expect Symonds to cover their backsides.

This is a result I didn't expect. Sri Lanka won again against Australia. :clap

Somehow I feel that Australia's dominance is decreasing with the absence of Warne and now also McGrath, who is clearly a big factor. Just like someone said, I think Aussie1st, the Australians can enjoy the dominance they have, but clearly recent results are showing the Test Nations are slowly getting in touch with Australia.

Topic on cricinfo is: Dilshan's brilliance sinks Australia

I didn't see the match, but I see on the scorecard Sangakkara made the most runs. I thought Dilshan made the most runs. Then I scrolled further and then I saw Dilshan was involved with four run outs! With these run outs he prevented that Australian batsman, went on to have a big score, except for Katich who had 56 runs. He clearly needed to be named Man of the Match.

Also Atapattu being the opener is a good thing for Sri Lanka. With him as opener, they won the last two matches.

what a poor performence by australia, 4 runouts in an innings and 3 of them by mistakes, future is not good for australia if they plays like that and especially is katich will open the innings they will even wont play in world cup super six series next year, hayden has to come back or someone else have to take the katich's position. Some of the Australian players are also not happy with katich opening like we have seen ricky today when he got out by mistake of katich.
