I didn't get to watch Australia chase down but ,what happened!?
How did Dilshan & Murali totally crush Australia?
What an ugly scorecard!!! Clarke was the only good thing and Katich again has just dumped that chance down the drain.

Jaques could do that, and in half the time. Katich needs to be shown the door, his slow scoring puts pressure on the following batsman.

Is that scores of a middle order batsmen? Katich should at least have one 100 in that list. Then the opening gig would be his. But he is majorly lacking a 100 which is quite poor from a guy that anchors. At worst he should be making big 50s (in the 80s and 90s) but he only has one and that game was setup by Gilly. Katich should be able to win us a game instead of relying on the brillance of Ponting, Symonds and Hussey. All 3 failed yesterday and Aus lost.

I find nothing wrong with how much he is scoring, he just takes to long to do it. If he can make a quick fire 40 off 35-40 balls then that would be good enough for me, but he makes 40 off 70+ balls sometimes, thats 30 balls wasted.

I'm willing to accept his slow scoring cause we have Gilly at the other end. But since he scores slowly he must make a big score where his strike will pick up. Then there won't be as much pressure on the other batters. What hes doing now is making an average score plus scoring slowly and he hasn't picked up his strike rate in this period.

Yeah agree about that, I still think Jaques would be a much better choice.

Yeah and how many times has Katich caused guys up the other end to get out.
I would rather see katich fail with 20 off 27 or so balls. Than continue to waste valuable time.
Instead of 50 off 80 etc.
He puts pressure on the guys batting with him and the guys that are new to the crease with him.

I still believe Hussey is a great option as opener.
He has the ability to anchor the innings and score quick enough, and if hes still there after 35 overs we all know what he can do when he starts to smack it around.

I think Clarke should bat ahead of symonds and maybe even martyn, Clarke isnt much of a hitter so coming in late at the innings doesnt really suit him.
Hes more of a pusher and accumulater of runs so he should be there for overs 20 - 40.

I don't know about opening Hussey. We have a guy in Jaques who could do a good job. I guess if SL post 300 odd we may as well throw Hussey up the order. The problem comes if Hussey gets out before the 30 over mark which more times than not happens to openers. If that happens to Hussey then we need to get him back down the order because he is way more value down there. With 10 overs left we could get 100+ with him, without him we would be lucky to get 60. This was a huge problem before Hussey came into our team. At the death we would just keep losing wickets.

I think that Cosgrove/Jaques could both replace Katich, both have scored converted chacnes into big scores but thats what Katich hasn't done.

And both aren't dashers so those saying its not good having 2 attacking batsmen opening well we wouldn't. I wouldn't mind either. The other thing we have to fix up is our bowling. Won't happen in this series but if we are going to win the WC we definitely need another strike bowler to backup Lee. I wouldn't mind seeing Tait and Lee opening the bowling if McGrath isn't around with Gillespie/Bracken being the 3rd bowler. Watson in the side for Martyn as we need a 6th bowler even though Martyn doesn't deserve to be dropped.

Whatever is the batting order, I reckon AUS will have to be flexible enough to change the batting order according to situation. For e.g. if they don't loose any wickets in say first 18-20 overs, then they can promote Symo and Hussey up the order ahead of Ponting, Martyn and Clarke. More so,because AUS has the players who can bat at any position.

Why does everyone love Phil Jaques?

Sure he is definitely a very talented youngster and he should be in the team but definitely not for Katich. I think that they should give Symonds a rest (just for one game) and let Katich drop to the middle order so Gilly and Jaques can open.

Why the hell would they want to rest Symonds in the finals series. Symonds even said it himself, if he was asked if he could have a rest, he answered no. Katich is a decent batsman at the top but his slow scoring and lack of brig runs really should warrant Jaques a retun to the team. I don't see that happening as the selector's see the current openers as their openers for the world cup.

I was judging from his last few scores. They definitely haven't been up to scratch. A rest did Gilly no harm.
