What should I train him on, to press him for national selection? Is that possible at all?

It's possible but a long shot. One pop fielding then just train primaries.

Right, here's a rather silly doubt - If I play a youth batsman at #7 in my senior games, such that he doesn't even get a chance to bat, given my top four batsman are good enough to finish the game off, does he gain any experience at all? Or does he gain a fair bit of experience only when he gets a chance to bat?

Yes he will, just not as much as actually batting. Although in the standard of your leagues, it wouldn't hurt a heap if you batted him in the top 4 considering even if he gets out, the rest of your top 5 can do the job.

And regarding training for Pomersbach, like Chewie said, one fielding then bowling tech and maybe an endurance pop sometime next season.

He's the man of future for Aussies. He has got the talent of Prodigy and that's awesome. Just 17 and capable batting it's not ordinary thing. Train fielding to reasonable and then bowling-tech. Endurance won't be much important. Go for it.
