Bisping Returns to Winnings Ways with Win over Wandy
![]()
Manchester was the willing host of the latest UFC event as UFC 105 rolled into town. The arena was packed to the rafters creating an intense atmosphere, especially when one of the many British fighters was on show. The main event of the evening, Brit favourite Michael Bisping vs Wanderlei Silva tore the roof off, especially when it was announced that it was Bisping leaving with the victory. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira also recieved some major support after he left his UFC debut with a victory to his name.
Michael Bisping declared in his pre-fight interviews that the loss to Dan Henderson had inspired him to up his level of performance even more, and it was certainly on show in the first round. Bisping started with a few nice, crisp punches, before closing the distance on Wanderlei and showcasing his further improved wrestling ability. He secured a takedown on Silva early, and then went to work on the ground, moving first into side control before securing the mount late in the round. Just before the buzzer, in an attempt to sweep Bisping from the bottom, Wanderlei ended up just giving up his back; The Count was unable to capitalise on it though, as the buzzer saved Silva.
Round 2 was more of the same. Wanderlei managed to keep the fight standing for a little longer, but was unable to fire off any real offence, only countering the blows he recieved from Bisping. The round ended, with Bisping having secured a takedown, moving to mount and firing off more unanswered ground and pound. The 3rd round again saw a Bisping takedown resulting in him securing the mount. Wanderlei again tried to sweep, but only succeeded in giving up his back. Bisping tried to sink in a rear naked choke, but Silva successfully got out of it and ended up in a good position.
With Silva in side control Bisping had to move swiftly, and he did, showing his impressive ability to get from the bottom to his feet. The round eventually came to an end with the fight on the feet and Wanderlei landing a counter punch. The judges had to score the fight, and they all agreed on a score of 30-27 in favour of Michael The Count Bisping. His career is back on the right tracks!
Earlier in the evening Antonio Rogerio Nogueira defeated fellow Brazilian Luiz Cane. The fight was dominated by 'Little Nog' both standing up and then on the ground. Nogueira eventually got Cane down to the ground, transitioned to side control before securing a nasty Kimura arm lock. Cane had no option but to tap, giving Nogueira a victory in his UFC Debut.
Before Bisping's victory, it was an up and down evening for the Brit fighters. Dan Hardy was defeated by Mike Swick by decision whereas James Wilks, Ross Pearson and Andre Winner all secured victories.
