so will New Zealand pitches, if not would probably be better for fast bowlers than australia pitches. brett lee was bowling 4-5mph faster than he usually does in last years chappel hadlee series in new zealand

^ That whole Area makes great playing pitches! I love watching cricket thier, I would love it more If the Aussies lose sometimes :)

a positive for the world cup to be in asia is when the tournament is held during feburay-March it will not be as hot if it was held in june-july

I pitch it in for Asia! There are a few reasons for that

1. Electric atmosphere - No one can possibly equal the atmosphere that prevails in Asia when a World Cup is played (1996)! I love such atmospheres and the cricket is terrific!

2. Huge money - the ICC gets big money to compensate for its Champions Trophy failure (if its scrapped by 2008 due to India's non participation!). Even if it isnt s crapped, they can get big money if the cup is hosted in Asia!

3. It enables the tourists of other countries to come and experience the marvel of the Asian culture and thereby promote it more among the world!

4. More nations in Asia - Asia consists of 4 cricketing nations - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This is the only continent with the most number of cricketing nations! So we need to be awarded every third World Cup!

When will the ICC make the annoucment on the host country for 2011?
The deadline for bidding finishes in February, after which there are couple of annual meetings planned. hopefully it will decided there.

The problem with playing in Australia is that when there are neutral games, there will be not many people attending the games. Imagine a game between Zimbabwe and Kenya at the SCG or Gabba!! But the grounds in Australia are the best in the world and there are many stadiums and facilities. There is the SCG, MCG, GABBA, WACA, Adelaide oval, Bellerive, Telstra Dome, Manuka oval (canberra) and maybe Stadium Australia or North Sydney Oval. I expect the ICC though to host the world cup in Asia because of the massive financial benefits and hope that they can spread the game to other Asian nations such as China and UAE.

I hope Australia win it and we get to co host. That would be nice.

I agree that the pitches over here in Aus/NZ will be good, thats assured.

Australia are the top team. They deserve it.

Do you think India being unavaliable for the Champions Trophy will do thir bid any harm?

Well the Aussie pitches offer no doubt fantastic cricket, but I would like to see the WC come back to Asia. As someone said Asia has 4 major cricketing nations and a lot of money for the ICC lies here.

Aus has shown they can host a big sporting event. You just have to look at the Rugby WC where we had minnow games being sold out due to good advertising and correct venue choice. I suspect the same will happen again where minnow games will be played at the smaller centers where fans will want to be a part of the WC so they will pack out the stadiums.
It helps when NZ themselves are hosting the Rugby WC in 2011 so they will have upgraded their stadiums.

Well one thing needs to occur if the WC is to be hosted in Aus and that is to lower the ticket prices. At the SCG the cheapest ticket price is $44AUS and up to $100+. They will need to lower the prices dramatically especially for the minnow games to a more reasonable price such as $10 like the Rugby World Cup matches and was the reason why matches between for instance Namibia v Romania had decent crowds.

I would like to have in India. So I can goto India to watch. As ICC said Every three year it will rotate to play in subcontinent.

Couldnt agree more. And theres also the small matter that Australia have also recently held the 2000 Olympics...

Here are some other points why I think that Australia and New Zealand should be chosen to host the 2011 World Cup:

1. If it was to be held in the subcontinent, there is a likelyhood that games such as India-Pakistan would have to be held other coutries, and the rivals wouldnt get to be able to battle it out in front of their own fans.

2. The pitches, grounds and facitlities in Aus & NZ are much better than in the subcontinent. As for the pitches, we only have to look at the recent India vs. Pakistan test match to judge that. Whilst it was marrer by rain, there was the ridiculous situation where there was almost 1200 runs for the loss of just 7 wickets, and Sehwag was allowed to score 250 at over a run a ball. It was a great performance by him, but the situation is still beyond belief.

3. To add to that, many of the grounds that are in country areas or not in the main cities are still of better quality than in the subcontinent. It would be great to use these sorts of facilities for smaller games and maybe the odd important match.

Counter arguments from me

1. Why so? The rivalry btw India and Pakistan is not as it was before! The rivalry has toned down with more focus on cricket! I am sure India can play Pakistan in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore or in some places of pakistan like Peshawar, Rawalpindi, etc

2. Ha Ha! Comparing a test wicket to a one day wicket? What is a one day wicket all about? A score of 280-300 for both sides with the side that puts the most pressure or that absorbs the most pressure wins! We have seen numerous games in the sub continent end up that way! One day cricket in the sub continent is always the most entertaining!

3. Since Asia is going for a joint bid, we have India, Pakistan, Sri lanka and Bangladesh. We have numerous grounds with good facilities. Some for instance:

India : Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkatta, Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Mohali
Pakistan : Karachi, Rawalpindi, Peshawar (sorry, dont know much of others!)
Sri Lanka : SSC, Premadasa
Bangladesh : Dhaka

They are many more stadiums (the above ones are only those which I get to my mind!). Regarding facilities, I think facilities is of medium importance! Most of the stadiums in Asia have more than required facilities with some stadiums have very good facilities!
