This Indian team seem to be lacking the temperament to bat for long hours. Can someone find out how many double hundreds have our batsmen hit after say 2015 as compared to other top teams such as Australia, England and New Zealand?

Also, for some reason they always seem to be in a hurry despite having all the time in the world resulting in a wicket like Rohit (yesterday) and Kohli (today). Heck even Pujara was bad in this match but he remains the only better player of spin in the overall context of the game moving forward.

We need someone with a fresh approach. Something that I thought Shreyas Iyer brought into the game.

At the start of the game, I thought it was ridiculous to play Shardul ahead of Ashwin but to be fair he has done a decent job as an all-rounder. India definitely needs to produce more pace bowling allrounders and by that I mean the genuine ones who can contribute in both aspects. If only Shardul can get more exposure on such pitches and Chahar can maintain his glass back from breaking down again, there is a good chance for them to emulate the ability of Hardik who isn't keen to play the longest format. Don't see any other pace bowling allrounders in the ranks in my sight.

Maybe BCCI keeping the ego aside and approaching ECB for county stints for our players would do a world of good. I know Pujara failed but then Rahane wasn't bad (he too had a county stints) and from the past record, it has always helped our players and the players like Zaheer, Ishant, Kumble or even Dinesh Mongia is a testament of it.

I am not sure if we can call this choking ? Our performance was outright bad from last couple of series. In the home series against Aussies, we were saved by Axar. In the SL series, it was Pant, Iyer and Axar's batting. None of them were part of our playing XI. It was normally Pant and lower order ( Axar, Ash, Jaddu) coming to the rescue. With Bumrah and Pant missing, I never expected us to win.

Our top order hasn't performed apart from one or two good knocks by Rohit/Pujji. If the top order doesn't perform, we cannot win in the matches outside of India.

Pujara spends all his time playing only one format and he has played County as well in last two months. The way he was dismissed in both the innings doesn't look good on him. The less we talk about Kohli and Rohit, the better. Kohli's 2nd innings dismissal is the worst and he has done this over and over. Shows how his temperament has gone down in recent years. Their #7 has faced more deliveries than our top 4 in both the innings.

If we have to avoid this, selectors need to be brave and look into Ranji performances instead of big names and select accordingly. Clearly our big names are past their date. We need to have the transition and groom the new team, but this is never gonna happen.

Happy for Rahane though. I really hope this is not a 1 match comeback performance and that he is consistent from the next series onwards.

Alright, let's not blame a certain Rohit Sharma because he has won 5 IPL trophies.

Let's not blame the captain, because it's the team that is failing and captain can't win you matches alone.

Let's blame Virat Kohli because he is the captain....oh sorry, he is not the captain. Let's blame him for not performing. I was expecting him to score 200 in every innings.

Again, don't blame Sharma as he is the best captain which Kohli can never be.

I'm surprised people not even talking or holding Sharma responsible. If it were for Kohli, there would've been half of dozen pages here asking for him to be removed from captaincy and 'whatnot'.

Interesting. Thanks for pulling this out. Why does the span say 2016-2019 though? Does that indicate no Indian has scored a double hundred in last 4 years?

I read somewhere that our top 4 wickets has almost the same number of 50s that our last 6 wickets has. And given that our last 6 wickets have at least two of of Siraj, Umesh, Shami, Ishant and Bumrah at any given point is not a great sign.

We have been dependent far too much on the lower order for long time now. It's time for the specialist batsmen to pull up their socks and play some consistent high quality cricket.

Not quite 4 years.

There were four in 2019. Last one was Agarwal November 2019 v Bangladesh. Sharma, Kohli and Agarwal all got one against South Africa.

We are selecting the wrong guys since 2015. In 2014, Yuvraj single-handedly lost us the game. However, post that we've had an issue with the Final 15 in every ICC tournament. Blame the selection committee!
