GCSE Results Day

GCSEs is what we take at the end of school (16 is the normal age). We then go onto college (16-18) and can do A-Levels, A2s, GCSE re-takes, etc.

School finishes at 16? Wow.

When does School finish in SA?

Umm I'm not sure but I think it is 17 or 18.

But I finished school in Australia which finishes at like 17 or 18; however you can drop out in year 10 (when you're 16) if you want but very few did.

So when you get to 18, do you go onto Uni or college? Or do you not have colleges like ours?

Yeah when you do your HSC (which is the final school year exam) you get a UAI (University Admission Index) which tells the Uni if you are worth excepting or not. Some Uni courses require you to have like a 99 UAI (medicine, ect) and the HSC's main goal is to get you a UAI so you can go to University.

That's how the system works basically. There is a school certificate which you take in year 10 and you get a score which is only really useful if you are dropping out but like I said not many do.

I've checked colleges in UK, India and Australia.

UK is fine after O levels, as there A/A2 levels are equal to Uni.
For India, you need to do A and A2 (Grades 12 and 13) for it to be considered equal to doing 12 years in CBSE.
For Aus, they said after A is fine, no need for A2. So thats just grade 12, when you are 17.

My grades are in. Here's a pic with my name and school blacked out (Don't want those bookies tracing me down now do we?)

Didn't do too badly :o

8 A*s, one A...
Not bad, but what the hell happened in IT? You're sleeping outside tonight!

I have this theory. IT is sooo easy, you need a 100 to get an A*. And in the practical exam, I forgot to print out a page worth 2 marks. Realised it as soon as I left the hall, thought about turning back, but went 'Meh, 2 marks ain't much' and left.

:o

Our system goes Prep, then Grades 1-12. After 12, you can apply to go into Uni or TAFE, which is also possible to get into without year 12 sometimes. The compulsory level is year 9 I think.

I think I have posted our school structure here before, but here it is:

Primary School

Reception
Year 1
Year 2
Year 3
Year 4
Year 5
Year 6

High School

Year 7
Year 8
Year 9
Year 10
Year 11

*end of compulsory education*

Sixth Form/College

Year 12
Year 13

I did it differently. I was in First School from Reception to Year 3, then Middle School from Year 4 to Year 7 and High School from Year 8 to Year 11. It has changed now.

So reception is like prep then? I guess you guys just have an extra year than us in that case.
