A win by 3 runs > A win by 50 runs

Fans wants thrill, a competition. i dont know about the pitch but the match was real thrill to watch.
A win by only 3 runs when you scored 410+ batting first is more disgusting than even losing a game by 50 runs. It shows that the bowlers just coulnd't handle any sort of pressure. More worrying is that, the Sri Lankan batsmen were making it look so ridiculously easy, as if they were practicing in the nets with a bowling machine doing 70mph.

Zaheer Khan isn't that good when you compare him to the others who have emerged this decade. Steyn, Lee (He has played the majority of his career this decade), Asif, Bond. He has an average over 30 in Test Cricket. Hardly anywhere near 'threatening'. Asif plays on the same deadpan pitches, yet his average is in the low 20's. Steyn plays in bouncy pitches, but he has pace and still can be a problem on dead pitches. Zaheer has 220 wickets at 34. That's not anything more than an ordinary bowler. Yeah, he has become much better as of late, but he has lost pace. Chris Martin has 170 wickets at 33, but no one calls Martin special. Zaheer is easily India's best quick bowler right now, and this decade, but that doesn't really say much.

HHow many test matches has Steyn played in India? Three. He had one real good inning at Jo`burg and all he did in the rest of the series was clean up the tail. And 3 test matches isn`t a lot to judge how good a player has been in a particular country. I`d be willing to believe you if he had played 10 test matches and had that average of his. It would be like bringing in Sreesanth`s stats in SA where he`d be averaging in the early 20s in 3 test matches but it would make no sense.

Someone in the other thread compared Chris Martin, Steyn and Zaheer Khan`s bowling average. Zaheer plays most of his cricket in India while Steyn had 1 good test match in India, thats it. Chris Martin averages 33 and he plays most of his cricket in NZ where you expect people to average in the 20s. That is`nt a fair comparison at all. Zaheer has been excellent for us since his return and has picked up top order wickets consistently. We need to look beyond the averages here. I`d take someone with an average of 30 who picks up a couple of wickets top order wickets at crucial times on unhelpful pitches anyday over someone who cleans up the tail and maintains his average. Its hard to explain in words but I don`t think any other fast bowler in World cricket would be performing any better than what Zaheer has been on these pitches in India (in test cricket).

Steyn`s average would be close to 30 if he kept playing on pitches like these, I`d bet my bottom dollar on it. Asif too has`nt played a lot of cricket for us to judge on him being a good bowler in the subcontinent. His wickets in SL were on absolute bowling beauties if you`d watched that test. Zaheer in good rhythm is one of the most skillfull seamers in world cricket at the moment and arguably the best reverse swing bowler in the world. I might get killed for saying this.

Bottom Line -No matter if India scores a 1000 runs in an innings or bowl the opposition out for 10,some people just cannot appreciate India.

A competition and a nail bitting match is what a average cricket fan want.

I enjoyed watching the game so did millions of people round the world.

Agreed. If Sachin doesn't take that catch then it would have gone for 4 and situation would be different. These young guys should learn to take catches in pressure by learning from seniors. They can't handle pressure and that's all. India fielding has suddenly gone below average this series and that is the imp. part where India should improve.

It was Jadeja iirc.

Jayawardena's run out was KOHLI! There were two fielders converging on the ball on it was Kohli who actually picked up and threw the ball to Dhoni who whipped the bails.

Why do opposition players fall like nine pins to injuries, when playing in India? Australia had a similar case, now Sri Lanka almost following the same path?
