Firstly, I do not want to offend anybody with this question and making a thread about this.

But one thing I still don't understand. Why do we give SO much importance to the current queen of England. Does she do anything that just stay in her palace? Also, whenever Kate Middleton is preganant, why is there so much hype whether if it's a boy or a girl? Jeez, it's just a baby. They're just a normal family, and they receive so much hype. Even their kids, are given their titles of Prince and Princess for nothing in my opinion. UK is not a monarchy anymore and these Queens and Princes are pretty pointless.

I understand that the grandparents and great-grandparents of Queen Elizabeth would have something to do as they would make large decisions and played big roles into granting independence for Commenwealth countries.
This is a touchy subject, but please feel free to share your opinions.

Things like part of tradition, but mainly good for tourism, especially in London

Royal family promotes U.K. around the world

I think your internal republican awaked.

Because they're Royal.
no one is royal in this world. actually so called royals are who who was powerful and rich from the age when every one is common. they get stronger and posses lots of resources than society got divided into two classes one aristocrats who posses most of resources and they were powerful. and second the proletariats/common who doesn't have any resources and they were powerless and divided.

It's just like religion. It's bizzare and antiquated but there is a critical mass of people that put value in it that it remains part of the system.

People don't like change, plus don't like complications. The monarchy is there, it has been for centuries, progressive milimetrical change has seen it become a symbolic monarchy, but none the less it's there. Its easier to keep them there than get rid of them etc.

There's constitutional monarchy in UK. means monarch can't use his powers without advice from the parliament which means monarch can't rule itself he has only power is veto the parliaments orders which no one use it since 1708. so british monarch is sovereign that reign but does not rule. parliament is highest and powerful authority in UK.
