Come again! Will you? Should try to get the better out off the player and not the worst! After playing 5 years at the opening slot and suddenly bringing him back to 4 isn't going to help out the team, instead it would be a serious threat to the team's greatest strength which the top order is. Selectors will stick with him to open the innings until he is there in the team. Just breakdown his careeer stats into pre-Champions Trophy 2013, post-Champions Trophy 2013 and post 2015 and you know where Rohit stands as a middle order batsman and where he stands while opening!

Okay I'll do that for you

I don't quite understand why people are so intent on pushing Rohit to no.4 (to simply accommodate Rahul to opening I guess)

By now, it is a proven fact that Rohit takes time to settle down. Most of the times he will play out his first 6-10 deliveries at a SR of less than 100 before going for shots. If this is the case, then he has to play as an opener. I would rather waste deliveries at the start than waste deliveries in the middle overs or death (if moved to no.4) and KILL any momentum that we might have got going for us. IF Rohit is playing, he has to play as an opener. Pushing him to the middle order in T20s or ODIs makes no sense

Regarding Rahul, he can be a great no.4 in ODIs. He can rotate the strike from the word go and won't kill any momentum we might have going for us. And Technically and temperamentally can hold the innings in case of a collapse. And there is no doubt on his big hitting skills.

Traditionally, India plays Tests first followed by ODIs/T20s on away tours. This time, it's the reverse. Wonder if that's got something to do with getting used to the conditions and performing in a format that is of importance/matters, viz Tests.

I feel its exactly the reason. All the talks of test cricket dying is rubbish. While people prefer shorter format for viewing in stadium the players especially the newer generation like Kohlis and Smiths have always said how important is it to be a good test cricket player.

I feel its a right call BCCI made and I am pretty sure things will be this way going ahead for an away tour. It will not remove any home condition factors but it will negate it a little.

I agree with you. Also Rohit in middle order for Mumbai was a disaster this year...:facepalm

Rohit is somebody, if he gets a good start, he can take the game away most of the times. This is why opening is appropriate for him to get some time in middle.

Yes, Virat said that playing shorter format first will give the team and himself time to get used to the conditions before tests.

Well England did wonderfully good in ODI since last year or so, so I expect evenly battles from tomorrow.

India won so many ODI series so I count them but we better knock the wood because if our first 3 fails to deliver good, England might beat us 3/2.

I am worried of Dhawan ji.

It's a 3 match series.

And thank God for that. Nothing more painful than a 5 match bilateral ODI series (well, I guess, except for 6/7 match bilateral ODIs)

Main reason for boring ODI is all the pitches will be high scoring snooze fest.

True that

Unless, the English realize that churning our belters will actually help the Indian team as much as the English team

Special good Luck to dear MS

Who need 98 runs more to become highest run scorer for India vs England in ODI

Yuvi 1523
SRT 1455
MSD 1425

..MS only 33 shorts of 10,000 ODI runs

# SRT,Saurav,Dravid already reached milestone of 10,000
ODI runs.

# MSD also need 3 more catches as keeper to complete 300
Catches in ODI

# MSD already hold record of most stumping (107) in ODI

Gilchrist (417), Boucher (402) Kumar sanga (383) took more catches than MSD as keeper.

I wish MS bats at # 4 in England[DOUBLEPOST=1531385258][/DOUBLEPOST]
