Pakistan's tour of England - August/September - 3 Tests/3 T20Is

I doubt you'll find yourself alone given the criticism he faces in general. :p

Archer's situation reminds me a lot of Raheem Sterling in that he is judged a lot harsher and considered to be overrated when they both are performing quite well. He does not seem to be an out and out quickie who wants to just bowl fast, he has shown a lot of skill in how he often varies his pace and deliveries to adapt to the conditions and he does have a tactical mind that has not been given it's due credit.

I still don't think England need their own version of a Mitchell Johnson, they need better batsmen first if they are to win down under and as long as Archer can bowl those reasonably long spells of quality pace and accuracy that he is most suited to, he will still be a valuable option all over the world let alone Australia and that is something that most teams would take.
Some valid points. Thanks.[DOUBLEPOST=1598005789][/DOUBLEPOST]England off to a good start as always!

Suddenly in ODI mode!

Archer has played the same number of tests as Bess. The attitude is noticeably different towards them. Bess would be 'he's improving, he needs time'. Archer it's 'why isn't he doing the thing?' That doesn't mean either one should be exempt from criticism when it's due. But I think Archer has been misued and also had a huge amount of pressure piled upon him after the start to his career (he'd bowled a super over to win the WC final before even playing test cricket).

Interestingly, he has 14 wickets in 5 matches when Anderson has played and 24 wickets in 5 matches when Anderson hasn't played. I think that's a big factor, when he's seen as a strike bowler I don't think it suits him as much as it does a player like Mark Wood, or when they have Stokes perform that role. When he's leading the attack it seems to suit his bowling better. He reminds me of a Glenn McGrath, with pace, maybe a Curtly Ambrose. I think he can perform that Mitchell Johnson role but it's like buying a Ferrari when all you do is drive to the shops.

His pace does seem to have been down this year. That could be a choice, as he hinted toward a couple of matches ago, but if that takes away his key weapon (high accuracy at pace) he becomes, to steal a line from George Dobell, another Craig Overton. :lol

Its not as obvious as the Sterling stuff though
Just to be very very clear my view of Jofra Archer has nothing to do with the colour of his skin! Something like that is absolutely abhorrent to me in all cases in all degrees! Purely from a cricketing point of view just as I would view Jos Buttler as being overrated in his role as well. I agree he needs some time to find his groove and he is a very good bowler.

Some spin already. Nice.[DOUBLEPOST=1598007731][/DOUBLEPOST]Crawley looking to get on with it.

Ah I wasn't meaning you, or anyone on here tbh. But there's a bit of it about if you look in some places, the human toilet bowl that is twitter for example

Oh definitely there is some horrible stuff to be found all over the place and it needs to be eradicated once and for all, in all levels of society.

Crawley playing and missing a few in the opening spell. Could prove costly, he's looking good against Yasir, who is really, really inconsistent with his length.

Yeah down want to jinx the lad but he has looked pretty solid and looking to score.

Am sure it has been discussed before but Sibley has some interesting mannerisms!

Watching Zak Crawley get gift runs hurts my soul. I think I'd bring Shan Masood on for a couple of overs against him though - see if you can Darren Stevens him out
