Bairstow's Rebels were forced to bowl v Australia in a T20 at the Allan Border Field.

Toby Roland-Jones took a wicket first ball of the innings.

Steven Finn took a wicket with the penultimate ball of the innings.

Liam Dawson made Glenn Maxwell look like an idiot.

Anthony Hopkins wasn't impressed when TRJ bowled a 13 ball over.

Aaron Finch carried the bat for a solid half-century.

First day of the new tour. Went pretty well at the beginning and end. Middle was a bit guff. Lost 4 wickets in the 2nd session.

It was a bad start for Bairstow's Rebels. Umpire Trump gave Adam Lyth the finger.

The captain was dismissed in a familiar way; sweeping Adam Zampa.


England recovered and were crusing when Mitchell Marsh dropped the Ashes.

But then, in unison with Agar, Marsh swept through the middle lower order of Bairstow's Rebels and they slumped from 87 for 4 to 91 for 9.
However a solid partnership by the numbers 10 and 11 was enough to steer Bairstow's Rebels home.

Well, late on Day 3 and the Grubbers 2nd innings is over



A much better performance with the bat led by twin 50s from Clarke and Browne and 80s from Ravi and Calum. No centuries but a very decent team effort (Che aside)...



So this is how it is. Sri Lanka need 262 to win this test match. Gonna be a real close one I think. We'll need Karunaratne early and Matthews is always dangerous. Time is not a factor with two whole days left so there will be a winner. Can Ravi's boyz do it?

Love Greatbatch, a great pinch hitter and a proper Kiwi, nothing to not love about him haha! Narrowly missing the follow on is always frustrating because it affects how you play in the second innings and when you put the throttle down. Be interesting to see your tactics and how you go ?

Going to try and knock off 200 about half way through day 3 and let Tuffers have his merry way with them

A summer of Test Cricket in England is nearing an end and after a 2-0 series defeat to South Africa, England have the chance to beat New Zealand by that same score line and end things on a high, but first, they require 53 more runs. Sounds easy, however, they only have 3 wickets remaining.

Chasing 260 for victory, England have managed to build the odd partnership, but then put the pressure back on themselves by losing a cluster of wickets. There is however hope, as at the crease is England‘s leading run scorer this summer with over 900 runs across all 3 formats, Kevin Pietersen. He is currently about 20 short of what would be his 3rd test century of the summer and he is being more than adequately partnered by Ryan Sidebottom, who has 21. With just the Burnley Lara and Monty to come, another wicket could spell the end for England and with more than 5 sessions remaining a draw is definitely out of the question.

Can KP guide England home, or will it be Vettori and spin to win?

Well...



Phew.... Ravi's boyz keep their unbeaten record so far together but only just.



Karunaratne was a key wicket as he dug in and we survived the classic ninth wicket partnership as de Silva threatened to see us away but Ravi and Amit chipped away and we managed to squeeze home. The run-out of Matthews was big one to and was a genuine one with Porter getting a direct hit from a tight second rather than a stupid run out from a 'not there' third.


Everyone chipped in aside from Shannon who had his classic three chances flash through the slips. Good match for Mark Watt after a somewhat poorer return in Bangladesh with Ports and Amit doing the business as usual.



An 8 run victory then after an absolute collapse is good work. What a test match. Not sure Embuldenyia would be my PotM (Any from Calum, Amit or Ravi tbf going towards Amit for those vital first innings runs). Can Sri Lanka bounce back? We'll see in the 2nd test.

I expected the partnership, because of course, and honestly thought they'd got too close when Ravi snaffled Fernando so I was actually quite surprised when Mishra bowled Embuldenyia...

UPDATE
Sadly work got in the way off me finishing the test match, but I did manage to get a few overs in. Still need about 35 runs to win, BUT, KP has gone for 89, knicked off, caught behind by Hopkins.

8 down with Sidebottom and Anderson at the crease and the drives outside the off stump have certainly became less frequent.

Hopefully have the result up tomorrow
