Dravid Resigns as Indian Captain

Rahul Dravid has resigned as India captain with immediate effect. In a letter written to the Indian board, he has asked to be relieved of the captaincy before Australia's forthcoming tour of India, beginning later this month...

Taken from Cricinfo; http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/india/content/current/story/310880.html

I bet a lot of the whining Indian fans are happy. Your pretty screwed though; There aren't any other candidates in your team.

I agree with his decsion.
He can concentrate on his batting in which at his best can be a pain if your the opposition.
Dhoni would probably get the captaincy but I would go for Yuvraj who combines youth and experience since he has played over 100 ODI's and is only 25.
They would however prefer the same captain for both forms of the game so Dhoni will be the one the selectors will go for.

Haha, yeah probably. Dravid will be replaced by... Tendulkar? Nah, hes too old.

I think it is a bad decision. This kind of thing will put immense pressure on the new captain. The message that goes out is : Win the Series or Step down...

pathetic.

Well, the timing is wrong, but eventually it had to happen. Dravid has still not lived down the World Cup Fiasco and it'll forever be a blemish on his record although I think there were other issues there as well (including Greg Chappell and friction with Sourav Ganguly).

But yes, the new captain will have a point to prove, but I must say I'm looking forward to it. A new captain and a new leadership may boost India's hopes for a long-term solution. I wish we get somebody really young and groom him for 2011.

Dhoni is not yet ready to be captain. Yuvraj is the best choice among the batsmen.

What about bowlers though? Anybody among the bowlers ready to be captain? Zaheer Khan, maybe? I'm not sure...

More likely you,ll get someone young then hound him out of a job next time you lose.

Really shocking.. i thought Dravid was a good captain and was building the youth well.. Yuvraj Singh is the only logical selection. He has the experience and is still pretty young. Gangulys name is coming but i reckon that would be bad as it would only be a short term option which is something that will only last less than a year.. I see potential in Yuvraj . Dhoni is another name being brought up which i reckn is a good choice but the experience is not there so maybe Vice Captain?

Who'll hound him out? I think the selectors will give a youngster a lot more opportunity than they did Dravid. Dravid has been given plenty of opportunity to prove his captaincy, but has fallen short, so what do you expect?

I don't think Dravid was "hounded" out. Sure, he must have been under a lot of pressure, but I simply cannot see why he would resign at this point unless he really felt that captaincy was a burden on his shoulders. Being captain of India is a lot different than other countries, simply because it involves very high stakes.

I can already see more people giving a toss about this then Fleming stepping down/being replaced.

:/
Well to be fair Dravid's one of the greatest batsman of all time & New Zealand rarely even play Test Cricket.

I wouldn't have a clue who India would go for as a captain though.

Yuvraj can't even make the Test XI.
Dhoni looks terribly bad when his struggling & looks at times that his ready to be dropped aswell.
And going back to Ganguly who was previously captain would be a negative move IMO.

Dravid isn't being criticized because we lost one series in England, a lot of people thought that Dravid wasn't fit for the job and each mistake by Dravid only adds to that. Sourav Ganguly is the only captain I can see in the team but the selectors need to find someone who will be around in 2011 so I think the job will go to Dhoni or Yuvraj. It's most likely to go to Dhoni since he plays in both the forms of the game.

And Also The Fact That Dhoni Was Chosen Over Yuvraj In T20 Captaincy...

I Would Love It If Anil Kumble Becomes The Test Captain Though!!! He Couldn't Have Done More For The Team...
