Can we get some new umpires?

Actuallly i remember saying that it was of bad quality but i never said that had anything to do with why we lost the series it was anything but that we played badly throught the whole series and nobody scored a hundred. So it was anything but moaning. Admitting that recently the umpirirng hasnt been of great quality

Whatever happened to Asoka De Silva?

I think he was taken off the elite panel

Ellawalakankanamge Asoka Ranjit De Silva (born March 28, 1956, Kalutara) is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who played in 10 Tests and 28 ODIs from 1985 to 1992. He later became an umpire and was on the ICC Elite Umpire Panel for a brief period of time, before being relegated along with Russell Tiffin in early 2005. He, however, remains a member of the ICC International umpire panel, and is often appointed to matches by the ICC to support the elite panel during busy periods in the international cricket season. The highlights of his umpiring career include being appointed to officiate at the Cricket World Cup in both 2003 and again in 2007.[citation needed]

Well umpiring will never be perfect, we can have good umpires and bad umpires but there will always be great decisions made and terrible decisions made IMO. Unfortunately there where quite a few of the bad ones over this test.

Umpires do an thank-less job. There was a little segment on in the tea break yesterday and before the start of play this morning on no-balls. It was pratically impossible to tell whether it was a no-ball or not. When an umpire makes a correct decision we hardly appreciate it, though when they make one mistake everyone calls for their heads.

I think almost everyone of us would be willing to forgive the umpires if they make an incorrect decision once in a while, but when there are four incorrect decisions in one day and then a few on the next, and there has already been one today, you have to call for some accountability on the part of the umpires.

I can forgive every umpire, and I mean it. Apart from person who calls you "cheats".

Anyways, yes we need some new umpires.

unless that robot-pire does not have any word "cheat" in the system dictionary :p..

You know, we could just put the umpires in the commentatory box where they watch the match on TV, and then give decisions using the green and red buttons they get, so they can look at the immediate replays.

The bowlers can then just appeal to a robot just standing there :P

Because sometimes, umpires get in the way of a tough run out chance..., so the umpire robot will have to be very thin ;)

I feel sorry for Shakoor Rana, is he a robot?

Give umpires handheld PDAs with live cricket action on it to make close decisions themselves rather than sending it to third man.

Imagine two umpires looking at close line call together at sqaure leg.

I'm not sure about you but I certainly appreciate a good decision. In fact, the very classification of an umpire being "good" reflects on the fact that people appreciate their job. Simon Taufel, for example, is regarded as a good umpire. That's because people appreciate his umpire ability. Secondly, if you really think the umpires made one mistake, please read the entirety of this thread and parts of the India-Australia one.

Umpiring is not a thankless job. They get paid for it, don't they? And get to travel around the world to different countries and watch great international cricketing action first hand. More than anything, they are privileged to make decisions which can affect the game in one way or the other...

I should think the perks of the job justify the pressures they are under.

I have absolutely no idea why so many so-called "experts" are so much against technology even proven to be accurate (or at least more accurate than human judgement).
