Honestly the worst thing about this idea is that everything's been given a dumb name. That immediately makes it seem more problematic. The core principles aren't exactly bad though - just badly executed.

Principle 1: Greater tactical freedom
- I'm definitely in favour of this. The idea of that freedom coming in the form of each team having control of a certain block of powerplay overs is certainly interesting too - kind of like the old batting and bowling powerplay rule that failed miserably gave the world the legend of George Bailey in ODI cricket.

Principle 2: Substitutions
- Even though a lot of people like to pull out the "it's just not cricket" response when substitutions are proposed, I quite like the extra flexibility that it allows. However, this proposal just goes "here's some flexibility, so long as you only make use of it in the following pre-defined way". Which is dumb.

Principle 3: Bonus Points
- I'm alright with there being bonus points on offer beyond the usual points available for winning and losing. I am not, however, in favour of prescribing how teams are supposed to go about their run-chases. That is dumb and will make the cricket more one-dimensional.

- - -

Here's what I'd do instead.

Powerplay regulations remain exactly as they are in the first six overs - however, the batting and bowling side get additional "Jokers" to play at any point of the innings:

:bat: Batting Joker: For one over, the fielding team must have an extra fielder inside the 30-metre circle.
:bwl: Bowling Joker: One bowler is allowed to bowl a fifth over, as opposed to the usual limit of four.

Both of these could be used at any point in the innings: if Rashid Khan has just finished his spell of four in the 18th over, then he's still able to bowl the 20th. If the Powerplay already dictates a limit of two fielders outside the circle, the Batting Joker could be used to reduce that to one. If you have a ball-one hitter like Josh Philippe at the crease, then he suddenly has an over of only one fielder outside the circle.
The teams must name a 13-man match day squad, and specify their starting eleven. They can then make one substitution at any point in the match, for tactical reasons.

This sounds somewhat lame, but the possibilities are actually very exciting: a team could essentially use an extra overseas player if they wanted. Imagine Mujeeb ur-Rehman bowling his four overs at the start of the innings, then being substituted out for Rashid Khan, who bowls the last five overs (hello Bowling Joker) from that same end. It could really raise standards.
So you go with the 4-2-0 points system for the match result, but then could have an extra bonus point available for a variety of reasons to create the possibility of a "five-point win".

Option 1 - The five-point win. If a team were to either chase their target within 15 overs, or win the match by 25% of their runs, then they score a five-point win.
Option 2 - The Bash Point. The team that hits more sixes gets the bonus point. This is obviously the sillier option, but it could be marketable I guess.

I don't understand why this was so hard for the guys at the Big Bash.

Certainly one of the best if not the best.

Remember watching it live 4 years back on the New Year's eve.
Same day I watched the highlights. Was nostalgic!!!! I remember those were my early years of college (11th). Was excited to see him play in the series which India won 3-0 in Aus under MSD. Unfortunately he got out early. I also remember he scored some 60-odd runs playing at the Wankhede for the very first time as he lit up a dead RCB match which eventually MI snached away from them.

Interesting points you came up with. Hope something like this gets implemented soon. Also btw why don't you think of joining a Cricket association where your knowledge could help you achieve some great heights?

Honestly I don't think that the ECB or anyone else is particularly interested in listening to what I have to say. Shame really

Maybe I should tweet it to Jarrod Kimber though

Their top four could potentially have YJB, Stoinis, Pooran and Maxi. Ridiculously stacked!

Stars vs Hurricanes will be fun to watch :D YJB, Pooran, Stoinis & Maxwell v Short, Malan, Ingram & McDermott :')
