Story Briggs Bullets...Moving On Up! (Battrick)

HuntingTigers in The Bullets Dome
( Manager Speaks To Media )

Well, this is going to be an interesting & huge match for the young Tigers. After a three great wins in three games in league. confidence level has been definitely raised but we are still far away when compared to giant team so called "Briggs Bullets". Since the league match has just finished yesterday, it was difficult for some of the key players to travel a long way to Dome. So most of our players have been rested. But still there are some challenging bowlers and competitive batsmen in the squad. The captain and wicketkeeper have also changed. These changes also helps us to find our second XI and gives some of the players, who doesn't play often in league, very good experience against strong teams.

We wud not be suprised even if a horrible collapse occurs as everyone has to learn by their mistakes ;) It wud be helpful for me to track those mistakes as a coach. Also it helps me to monitor all the player's performances in the squad. The match is just an hour left to get started and we are looking for a good game & winners are obviously known but still, it wud be a nice friendly match.

Expected XI :
Santosh Dangasela (WK), Viplav Dangasela, Jeevan Singh, Dennis Bartlett, Duranjaya Haishen, Elvis Field (debut), Malcolm Wotton, Nityanand Ahmed, William Bolland, Deepak Abdul kadir( Captain ), Prabodh Ghandi .

A small crowd turned out to see the Bullets give a lesson in cricket to the rookies from India; HuntingTigers. On a fine day in Yorkshire, Tigers captain Deepak Abdul kadir won the toss and put the Bullets in, and after a couple of overs it looked to have been a fine piece of captaincy as Ghandi removed rookie wicket keeper Midworth for only 7. However the Ali brothers then met at the crease and the Tigers never got a look in. Elder brother and captain Nalin took a star role smashing 16 fours and 1 six in his 166, while younger brother Shastwat hit 13 fours in his 151. The Bullets amassed 335 in their 50 overs, leaving the Tigers with a lot to do. After a bright start which saw Viplav Dangasela smash Ahmed for a huge six, the Bullets fought back and both Ahmed and the impressive Storer, ripped through the top order of the tigers to leave them reeling at 36 for 6, both picking up 3 wickets in the process. The introduction of the spinners gave the Tigers little rest as both picked up 2 wickets to seal a pleasing days work for the Bullets.

Managers View

"Good stuff, was expecting it really. Dead pleased for Shastwat, I think the fact he was batting with his brother helped him a lot as they would have done it a lot in their youth back in India. The bowlers did their jobs too and we kept things tight in the field, a nice game for the lads, and a nice learning experience for the Tigers too, they have potential but they have a long way to go yet and I hope they do well."

wow unlucky suren, a very comprhensive victory for briggsey well done

Those brothers really enjoyed the cricket today ;) If i had elected to bat first, thats it.. We wud have had only around 25 Overs totally :p So atleast now the spectators were gained by entertainment provided by Ali brothers :)

oh yeah just noticed the brother, both of your bro's on suren's side made 7, briggs' bros made big scores

Weekly Interview

Today will see the start of the weekly interview, which will take place every Sunday after a friendly/Battrick League match. The first interview will take place with none other than the Man of The Match from today's game, the club captain; Nalin Ali.

Well first of all Nalin, congratulations on a fine performance today!

NA: Thanks a lot, it was great to play so well and great for the team to win so convincingly, this is probably the first game this season where my timing has felt perfect and I really felt good at the crease.

You certinally looked to be in good nick! What was your favourite shot of the innings?

NA: Wow so many to choose from! I couldnt name one in particular but I did enjoy the huge six I hit out of the ground, I heard it landed through the windscreen of Suren's (HuntingTigers manager) car! so that was amusing.

Haha! Well lets turn our attentions now to the team, how do you feel the season is going at present?

NA: Well, lets put it this way, we are playing a lot better than our position in the league reflects. I think our win on Friday against barbadian buses showed that we are capable of beating anyone on our day, and also the match against the Bobcats which we narrowly lost also showed we are playing well. The boys are batting well and the bowlers are also picking up the wickets, and I think if we win our next two games, confidence will be sky high once again and the game with Postwar's will be more interesting!

Thats certinally true! It is fair to say the team has gone down hill since the early days when you were flying high, any particular reasons for that?

NA: Well if you compare the team now to the team then the personnel is different. I think when the club sold Grady (Oneil) and Kenny (Forbes) we sold our 2 most influencal players. Grady could knock over any team on his day, and Kenny was capable of destroying teams with both bat and ball so those two were missed, we have tried to replace them but the guys we brought in just didnt compare, but now Jon (Burdett) and Fitz (Gillman) are looking great and to bring back Darrell (Rankin) gave a huge lift to everyone at the club who had missed him.

How's the season gone from your own personal view? I see you've started to turn over your arm once more this season!

NA: Haha, yeah I have, Im not a world beater by any means but if I can bowl 10 overs and pick up the odd wicket or two and only go for 40 odd runs, the team is in a healthy position rather than throwing the ball to someone who cant bowl and will cost us 60 runs from 5 overs. Im happy to fill the roll as a 5th bowler or whatever it may be. As far as batting goes, its been a stop start season for me, obviously when Hilal (Sohail) came my position as opener was going to change, I took it upon myself to do that, more so because I started to bat poorly opening, but now I think im happy where I am in the order and im sure the runs will start to flow sooner rather than later!

Thats great to hear, now lets move to a more personal note, there are always rumours about you and your private life in the local press! Care to divulge into any information!?

NA: Haha, welln you should never believe what you read in the papers! I am only a young guy people forget that, 20 years old is young! I am a devout Hindu and I always will be. Obviously when I came to England I was only 17 but I felt and my family felt it was a great opportunity for me to improve which I have greatly. I do hope someday to return to my home country and play there, but that wont be happening anytime soon. My brother has come over now to play here and that was fantastic for me and for the team. He has brought his wife and kids though and because he has only just come they are staying at my house, so thats a bit of a pain!

Haha thats unfortunate! Okay a couple of final questions for you, who's your best friend at the club?

NA: Well they are all my friends and all close to me, but if I was to pick one, it would be Sugriva Moodley, we grew up together and played cricket together at the same grade back home, so when I reccomended him to the club it was great to hear he was available to come, we have been best friends for a long time!

Okay, next, who's had the biggest influence on you during your time at the club?

NA: Well there have been a couple of guys, first one being Hamish Hildred, when I came over he was the captain and he gave me a lot of advice on many different things, he saw my potential and when he stepped down to hand the captaincy over to me it was an amazing honour. The second one would have to be Derek Ainsworth. I opened the batting with him many times and he would always advise me and talk things through with me both in games and outside of them, he is a great guy and to learn from him was amazing for me.

And finally, who's the best player you've ever played with or against?

NA: Well there have been a few! Probably against I would have to say Syed Burki (gloucester gipsies) Darren Allardyce (Cricket Geniuses) and Joe Kesterton (Postwar's) they are great players! With I would say Derek Ainsworth, Grady Oneil, Kenny Forbes and Darrell Rankin without a doubt!

Thanks Nalin, a very ensightful interview there!

NA: No problem!

So, tune in next week where we will have a different player in the hot seat ready to answer the questions!

Down At The Nets

This weeks nets took place yesterday, and the two youngsters, Des Midworth and Pradnesh Ahmed were given a good work out. Both had valuable gains from the nets this week, and are said to be looking forward to continuing their schedule next week. The results are as follows;

Pradnesh Ahmed - BT Rating - Increased
Des Midworth - Concentration - Mediocre to Competent

A good day down at the nets, Des and Pradnesh have been earmarked as the future stars of the team and U19 call ups have said to be waiting in the wings should there excellent progress continue. Manager Briggs has stated he is pleased with the development of the two, but is still scowering the market looking for a couple of players to add to the strength in depth of the team.
