After watching a programme on iPlayer, it just highligted to me, how messed up British society is. Basically we now have kids as young as 13 who steal cars, go and drive them around and crash them. As they get taken away by the police they have big grins on their faces and are waving to the crowds. They spit and swear at the police and their parents are just as bad, generally living of the dole, smoking and drinking away and contributing sod all. We have kids in gangs, carrying knives and getting drunk, before they even start secondary school. Kids, dealing and taking drugs and skipping school, punching teachers and getting pregant in their early teens.
I personally think the time has come for much harsher punishments to be used, aimed at the parents. A kid of 13, doesn't really know right and wrong, it is the parental influence which should show play an important factor. If a parent thought that they would either go away for hard time, or else be made to pay a large fine they would get their children back onto the straight and narrow. These parents also need to be encouraged back into full time work, with a bit more pride in themselves, instead of just sitting at home watching Jeremy Kyle. There are plenty of single parent families out there, where the kids are well behaved, go to school, go to uni and make a go of themselves, because of the fact that the parent had pride in themselves and brought them up correctly. This never used to happen in the past due to there being a much stronger community spirit, which is no longer present and people not wanting to be thought as a bad British citizen by the local community.
Britain is becoming a society where crime is the norm and prison and the police are no longer respected/feared. If society continues like this for much longer without action being taken, it will continue to grow and grow and God knows where that will leave us, in 20, 40 or even 100 years time.
