Dhoni denies reports of rift within team

In a bizarre turn of events, the entire Indian team turned up at the pre-match press conference at Trent Bridge on Friday in a "show of unity" following media reports of a rift between senior players.

Once the team had assembled, captain MS Dhoni read out a statement to "the people of India and Indian cricket fans worldwide". The team, he said, was unified, "as good as it has ever been with each individual supporting each other on and off the field". He called the reports, published in the Indian media on Friday, of a rift between himself and Virender Sehwag "false and irresponsible behaviour".

The team, Dhoni said, was headed into the Twenty20 World Cup confident, well-prepared and unified. Once the statement was read out, the entire team - Dhoni included - walked off.

The reports had pointed to Dhoni's replies - at a press conference on Thursday - on Sehwag's injury as indicative of a rift between the two. Sehwag yet to bat on the tour, is suffering from a niggle to his right shoulder and Dhoni said he wasn't sure when he'd be able to play.

India play their first game on Saturday, against Bangladesh.

It might have some truth, it was very odd that Dhoni would come out with his team and read a prepared statement. How big is the speculation in India, sounds like India might be trying to hide something.

So to hide something you come out and give a press statement? Are u nuts?

Dhoni did the right thing. Staying quiet against such bull ████ which unfortunately appeared on a newspaper that has wide following would only accentuate such rumours further in India. He wanted to nip that in the bud, and he did.

You could be right, but to read a prepared statement makes it a little odd don't you think.

What's wrong with reading a pre-prepared statement as well? Would you want to try and ad-lib a statement to the press? I certainly wouldn't.

How many times have you seen players get into trouble, and I'm not saying Dhoni is and reading a pre-prepared statement. Rugby and League players are so bad for doing it, and most of the time they don't mean it. Usually a manager will write it for him and tell him to say it.

Considering Dhoni is not the greatest public speaker on the earth, it makes perfect sense. And considering the weight of the issue, a single tongue slip could prove fatal while speaking ex tempore.

And get over it, you are stupidly trying to find skeletons behind such a trivial issue Mr. Sherlock.

Why did the whole team have to come out?

Ganguly will leak all information as soon as he talks to Sehwag. ;)

Dhoni -what a man !

I think thats the best way to address the media, which was busy speculating these things. I doubt that they will question any player of the Indian contingent about this now.

Dhoni has taken them head-on and thats the way to deal with irresponsible ppl.In future, the media would not try and mess up things.
