Finally been able to play the PES demo. I don't know where all this talk of step backwards is coming from because quite frankly, it's the best PES i've played since the 2nd one. The shooting is perfect, the passing is a dream, the tempo is brilliant, graphics are nice and smooth, facial resemblance is top notch and if this is only a demo then bring on the full game. Can't wait for it.

Attempted to buy FIFA yesterday but it was sold out. I'll wait till after i've bought PES now.

Believe me, this years FIFA is a much more real gaming expiriance than the PES one, everyone knew this as soon as the PES2008 demo hit the marketplace...

PES2008 has such an arcade and easy feel to it, looks ugly too.

FIFA basically has everything amazing graphics annimations could be better, and the gameplay is pretty good you have to build up your moves unlike in PES2008 where I can run through a whole team with one guy.

And I can say I love PES probably as much as Madman does been playing it since ISS but if somthings not up to scratch then I'm not going to go around saying it's good just because the last 8-10 games were...

That's true in all football games if you're opponent's crap. You can't do that on a decent level or against a decent opponent.

Just because PES is much smoother than Fifa doesn't make it 'arcadey'. BLIC is arcadey. PES is a proper football game.

The 2nd PES owns every football game ever. It's just way too dated now.

Anyway, I can finally play the PES demo on my laptop now. layed about 6 games so far; Absolutely loving it.

Matt, my first impressions of PES 2008 were good, when you find the bugs and how bad the physics and keepers are, it gets so annoying. I hope the full version is better .

The one thing that I thought would be good about FIFA was the keepers after the hype. After playing the PS2 version today, I can tell you the keepers are disgusting. The animation is poor, and when it hits there hand the ball pings high into the sky. Much worse than the PES08, which are still in production anyway.

Just thought i'd let ya know that it isnt just mine and a few other peoples opinions that Fifa is more Realistic than PES. A professional game reviewer from a well established game site, Eurogamer said this:

FIFA 08 now feels more like an alternative to PES rather than a direct rival, due to its slower, more considered and realistic approach. The two series feel very much like they're on opposite ends of the spectrum now, with both possessing a host of merits, but ultimately providing two very different experiences. Maybe it's time we stopped torturing ourselves about which is better and started thinking about what kind of footy experience we're looking for, then make our decisions based on that instead.

I know it's still 1 guy's opinion, but he is paid to voice his opinions, and he is a professional at what he does, so i feel that it helps prove my point .

Yeah I admit PES runs pretty nicley 60fps I think?

I still can't see it being a more realistic game of football, of course non of the two games can come 100% to realism but PES definatly isn't realistic out of the two I also think the two games cant be compared anymore as they've taken two very different directions in their approach....

All in all I'm enjoying FIFA more than I ever have hopefully when PES comes out I hope it doesnt do what it does every year: make FIFA look rubbish...

Well it certainly seems that way given what i've played of the full game of FIFA and the demo of PES. Although to it's credit, it doesn't make FIFA look rubbish, it just makes it look a bit outclassed.

Just thought i'd let ya know that it isnt just mine and a few other peoples opinions that Fifa is more Realistic than PES. A professional game reviewer from a well established game site, Eurogamer said this:

There are many reviews for the 360 version that slate the realism in FIFA. Computerandvideogames.com for example :

FIFA 08's biggest problem is that it makes it just too difficult to actually play football. Crucially, it lets itself down with the small things - like making a simple five-yard pass to a team-mate. We reckon it's because the 360 is too busy calculating all those trajectories, momentum and points of impact that EA always bang on about to actually play things simple and concentrate on the important stuff.

Then there's the ball. It looks like a football, but when you punt it, strange things begin to happen. It's almost like playing in Zero-G at times. Additionally, because every player essentially feels the same, your capacity for tactics is castrated. The tasty tactical fruit salad of PES is nowhere to be seen. Konami's masterclass routinely has you leaping out of the chair with joy or indignation, walloping each virtual pass as it were your own foot; FIFA manages to conjure only apathy, because it simply feels like a... videogame. No more, no less.

So I think we can safely say that opinions are divided!

Whenever I play a pass on FIFA it's as if i'm kicking the ball through acres of ****ch. On PES, the passes play like a dream. Also, I literally am in love with with the new shooting system on PES; It's absolute perfection. Can't wait for 26th October.

Pfft, reviwers usually no nothing about the game, they give it a match or two then lie and say they've been on it all week.......half of them are fanboi's of one game or another (ok bring on the slaying...)

Btw, just to let all you nOObs know that THE best football game on earth is actually: Sensible World Of Soccer!
