Ideas for celebrations and other animations

Hold on people. There is something very important regarding the appeals. They should NOT be different if they are close or not. That way the user will know the decision before the umpire even gives the decision. They did that in EA 2005 where a stifled appeal with one hand up meant the batsman was going to be not out and a stronger one with 2 hands up meant he would be out. It takes out the suspense of waiting for the umpires decision.

Hmmm, why are all the TCP staff/contributors seemingly talking about things that are of secondary or tertiary importance? I would be obliged if someone could give some details on the bowling and batting models, editing features and game modes, which I think are rather more important than the development team wasting undue amounts of time on things like celebrations and batting stance etc.

well..we have been talking abt the core gameplay and how gameplay is more imp than graphics, where EA/codies went wrong etc etc for months now and there
is nothing much left to talk. and also minute things like these can really come in handy.

i would have agreed with you if members suggested things like showing
commentators in b/w game, glass breaking , audience taking a catch when hit for six etc.even ceremonies/presentations is a bit too much but celebrations are quite important IMO !

i think that there could be some special celebrations like Bret Lee's where he punches the ground and Shoiab Akhtar, etc

i might get flamed for this but i actually kinda agree with Ritwik and Blackleo...

dont get me wrong, animations are really important, and cut scenes do add a lot to the game...but, these really are much less important than other areas such as gameplay, AI and options etc.

i always skip the cutscenes in any cricket game or soccer/football game cos they annoy me, i just want to get back to the action...the only time i would watch them would be for a celebration - i.e. winning a trophy or achieving a milestone (e.g. 50 or 100 or 200 etc.)

so these ideas are great and i do intend to implement a lot of them, but they will not be worked on that extensively until other core areas of the game are completed.

A quick word on facial expressions - this would be great, but is so unecessary right now...it requires a lot of extra focus which could put the release back by 1 or 2 months at least - would it be worth it? I dont think so...i am constantly having to consider cost versus reward, and in this case cost is much greater than reward...

Ritwik, there has been some quite indepth discussion on batting and bowling models back in the main 'discussion' thread quite some time ago....but yes, there is still a lot more detail that is yet to be revealed concerning the gameplay and stats and features etc. You're going to have to trust me that more info will be revealed as time goes on. Remember it is still quite early in developement, despite the leaps we have been making...

cheers,

LM

this is also true...Ritwik, i think it is more of a 'wishlist' kind of thing, particularly people just adding ideas for animations which is highly welcomed...it's all good...

JK, i agree with you on the celebrations - indeed they are important. I guess it's about finding a good balance tho...e.g. i think celebrations can still be great, without facial expressions ;)

couldnt agree more ! :)

actually, I will wait for beta testing, before suggestion anything.

Giving gameplay suggestions now is like firing at skies.

Your choice...I respect your defyance :p

This is more of a query, will bowlers running in be shown like Brian Lara 2005 or not, like EA Cricket 2005

With cutscenes i reckon there should be an option to have them on like in Rugby League 2.

I think the conclusion we drawing is that certain aspects have to be in the game, celebrations is definately one of them

Think of what these other games have been like if you get to milestones, ...it sucks( I've taken a hattrick without any response from commentator of player that would suggest so)

Really I agree that between balls and over's we normally skip these animations, but maybe stats can be shown while these small anim's are happening, so we don't lose interest..

I just want my bat raised @ 150* ;)

nice suggestion.

Yes, dont worry, i guarantee there will be several different anims for celebrating milestones, including raising the bat and removing then raising the helmet and kissing the badge ;)

yep, the (default) camera work will be similar to BLIC2k5 - i.e. camera will zoom in in keeping with the pace of the bowler until it is close enough - (otherwise what's the point of having the bowler animations of running in etc??)...e.g. would start out further away for a pace bowler than a spinner...

you will see this camera working in the next video, along with bowling of course...

Er... is that one of your funny posts? ;)

Since when have major gameplay changes been made at the beta testing stage?

Thanks for your reply there, LM. I would be all for animations to show milestones etc, but as you said gameplay and AI are much more important and definitive in determining the game's success.

Thanks. I hear that they're going back on a tour later this year, although Axl would be the only one of the original members to take part. He has promised that Chinese Democracy would be releasing this year, but we've heard that one before, haven't we ? ;)
