Yeah!So we are thinking to buy a DTH service.Which of the many-Tata Sky, Big TV, Dish TV , Digital TV, etc, etc is more economical and provides all sports channels and other entertainment channels in less than 200 INR?I am just fed up of our local cable operator, as its quality is low and its connection is lost any time.

less than 200 INR?
Let it be 300 at max per month

I think you should go for DishTV...... some 1900 INR for installation+set top box+dish and about 4 months free... then 160 INR per month..... and espn star package extra for 40 odd rupees...

This is Average cost.... You should get confirmed....

Even though I use Airtel Digital TV Recorder, I would suggest you to go for Tata Sky+ HD, it's the best. Tata Sky+ HD provides you features like record, rewind, pause, etc. in high definition.

If you aren't interested in the recorder, go for Tata Sky HD. Remember that Tata Sky is the best for HD channels. I'm sure you'll want to purchase a HD box only, if not, then I won't suggest you buying one.

But if for some reasons you won't just the normal box, then Airtel is the thing for you.

Tata Sky is damn costly, isn't it? Also, I feel you should look at their official websites for the price rather than here.

Now that we have a thread to discuss the Indian DTH Service, I have a couple of points to make.

Dish TV? My, they are horrible. I applied for a
connection online and after nearly 6 months a guy calls me up. That was over

4 months I had been using Reliance Digital TV.

It depends on where you live. They have a very good service here in Delhi, rather they guarantee repairs/installation within 24 hours. They provide an equally good service in all the metropolitan cities of India. Considering I don't know where you live, I can only think of the fact that you live in one of the small cities where their service is poor.

I think HD has to be anything above 576p, but the so called HD channels of DishTV aren't of that scale.

Have a look at their site, especially the FAQs - Dish truHD DTH HD 30 High Definition Channels India, Are you HDed Yet? ™

You do know that they could end up in a big legal trouble if they put forward a false claim. Being Asia's largest DTH company, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't fake the quality of their channels.

If you want the best and can afford to shed a few extra bucks, go for TATA Sky. It is surely a bit expensive, but it is currently regarded as India's best DTH company. The price depends on the pack you choose. The non-HD pack with all the channels should cost you somewhere around Rs.350/- per month.

DishTV should be your second choice. I have two connections of DishTV at my place. The quality is just about as good as that of TataSky, plus it's a bit cheap. You just need to pay 50% of the actual price on the second connection. They are Asia's largest DTH company and provide the maximum number of HD channels in India.

Rest are crap.

It is, but it's worth the price, trust me.

I said it on the basis of some of the articles I read on the internet. I still don't believe that they offer the quality above 576p, it's practically impossible in India currently as the government isn't providing any DTH company much space to add 30 HD channels.

DishTV should be your second choice.
Not at all, it's pathetic. Even the quality sucks IMO. The only good thing they have is their brand ambassador, Shahrukh Khan.

You just need to pay 50% of the actual price on the second connection.
Even Airtel provides this facility and I guess so do the other DTH companies. The second box works on the same satellite, is available for a lower price and even the monthly charges are 40% of the original prices on the second connection.

Meet, you can register at SaveOnDish Forums and can get better help over there. Even I'm a part of those forums and they seriously are the best to discuss such stuff. Also, you'll find some negatives in each sub-forum for that particular DTH company, but don't worry, no customer is ever 100% satisfied, and people there expect a lot and so the high amount of complaints.

Some of them are too annoying, they don't understand that nothing can be perfect, it can just be better. Nonetheless, have a look at the forums, I'm sure they'll be of great help to you.

Those articles are most probably far from true. If they were true and could prove that DishTV's claims are false, the person who wrote the article would rather file a case in a court and look to cash in on the issue, and not just write stupid articles on the web.

Not at all, it's pathetic.

If it had been 'pathetic' it wouldn't be India's, rather Asia's largest DTH company.

Yeah, and Airtel even provides two HD channels which are so awesome! They even flip StarCricket HD and ESPN HD when two matches are being played simultaneously which makes it so real! They are surely Milky Way's best DTH provider! :rolleyes

I guess that's because Dish TV was the first DTH service in Asia and it's available worldwide? othervise Tata sky would be on 1st place but it's only available in limited countries.

IMO, Airtel has best picture clarity (for SD channels) because it uses MPEG-4 technology while other uses MPEG-2 and that is not said by me, I have read many reviews about it and also it's comparison between Dish and Tata Sky. It will not a bad step even if you go for Airtel because week before they recently said they will put new HD channels soon. So according to me if you are looking for HD channels then go for either Tata Sky or Dish. But if just want normal SD box then go for Airtel.

That was just my opinion, rest depends on you.

Tata Sky.

Pros

--> 5000 rs yearly providing all channels that are there plus 12 showcase movies which individual cost 50-75 rs.

--> Cricket from any angle. You can watch matches from Stump Cam,Rolling Cam,etc.

--> High Quality

--> Great Customer Service here in Mumbai atleast.

Cons

--> 5000/12 = 416 rs per month.

Is there any other which provides recording or any other???
according to me AIRTEL is best in quality

DishTV was the first DTH service providing company here, so it's quite obvious that they will be be the largest DTH company in India.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. For SD channels, Airtel is undoubtedly the best. For HD, Airtel's quality is good but not as good as Tata Sky HD or Reliance Big TV, hopefully things will get after the shift scheduled for 15th March, 2011. DishTV doesn't really stand anywhere for me. No offence to Pranav and other DishTV users.

Motorola was the first new generation company to launch its mobile phones in India, yet it is far from being India's largest mobile company at the moment. I suppose you are intelligent enough to understand what I mean to say here. If not, I am afraid only God can help you!

You gotta understand that a DTH service can't be rated solely on the basis of its picture quality. Other factors such as costumer service, signal strength (especially when it is raining), consumer base and the network coverage are also considered important.
