I think if Tom Moody is available, he should be pursued. He has constantly put his hat in the race for the coach's post and has been rejected multiple times in favor of local players. But a foreign coach at this time would not be a bad prospect. We are getting to a similar 90's situation where our team's results are totally dependent on one single player and there seems to be chaos everywhere. A foreign coach could bring an outside perspective.

Though Rahane is out of form, he is still not a permanent member of the test side and should be considered for test captaincy. If Pujara can have one more good series in Australia, he'd come into the reckoning too for test captaincy. For now, Rahane seems the best fit. India's test team is such a disarray (as far as player security goes) that even Rahane is in a shaky spot as far as a replacement captain is concerned. Conspiracy theorists have not yet caught the train, talking about Kohli and how smartly he has ensured that he has not strong replacement option for captaincy spot.
