Joyce only added 6 more runs to his total before his eagerness to get the strike left him a few ft short. He set off for a quick single to mid off but even with the dive, he was unable to prevent Symond's throw in and Gilchrist's quick take of the bails. A outstanding innings had come to an end, with the whole ground standing and Joyce's bat aloft.
In came Jon Lewis and together with Panesar he was able to accumilate a few runs to boost the score. Lewis added 9 off 10 balls with 1 four before poor running from England again resulted in Lewis heading back to the pavilion. A direct throw from Hayden showed that the Australian's were still the best when it came to ground fielding. But in any case, Lewis had added precious runs to the England scorecard.
Panesar went last, after Anderson had been able to make 13 quick runs from 15 balls. Panesar made 14 off 24, before going for one to many, trying to slog Ponting off middle stump and missing completely. Although England lost the last 5 wickets pretty quickly, they managed to pile on some more runs and leave Australia a pretty daunting total to chase!
