Peer Lawther at Codemasters has replied to the questions we sent him. Here are the answers:

Hello Peer, could we start by asking you who you are, what your responsibility is with Brian Lara International Cricket, and how most people know you.
I'm the Community Liaison Manager for the Codemasters sports titles
including LMA Manager, Club Football and, of course, Brian Lara
International Cricket 2005 (and not forgetting the Ricky Ponting version of
course). I promote the game to online forums and websites, talk about the
game with the fans, along with updating the official website and writing and
producing the newsletters to the registered members
(http://www.codemasters.co.uk/regist...ts.php?gid=1584)

Will there be Online Play in the game?
No online play in this version of the game but we certainly hope to have
it in future versions.

In batting, will there be an option to advance down the pitch to play a
shot?
Unfortunately not - we didn't have the time to put forward/backward
movement in the game this time. Again, this will be in future versions.

Is this game created by the same team that made the original, and if not,
how is this develepor better?
It's a new developer - Swordfish Studios - which worked on the excellent
World Championship Rugby game last year. We felt they had produced a great
game in World Championship Rugby and could handle sports titles very well -
even those with a pedigree such as Brian Lara's.

Thanks for your time, Peer, will you be joining the forums?
I'll certainly look to join - as soon as I'm back from my honeymoon!

If there are any more questions you would like to ask Peer then go to this forum thread to post them.

Oh no ! no advance down the pitch option :crying

We shud appeal to codemasters to make this option available b4 release or after release thru a patch.

BTW we do have some very good guys like sam, prakash, etc. who can make this advance down the pitch option available in the game thru editing.

I doubt it. It would be very hard as you would need to motion capture the shot.

agreed i too think that it will be very very difficult to make that shot by the patchers themselves

Well, he does make reference to future versions. So I guess we will have to wait for the next one :(

It is ridiculous to leave out such an important thing out of a cricket game !!! :(

Yes, sad but true. Got confirmation on that yesterday. It's a pity but it'll be implemented in future editions and there's lots of other stuff that I'm sure will make for the lack of forward/backward movement.

Although I wouldn't be too disappointed with that one, what bothers me though is that this lack of dancing down the pitch taking the stumpings out of the equation. Honestly I do not play a single shot coming down the wicket when batting with Cricket 2004. I do not mind the CPU charging and being stumped when the going is tough :p

I know of lot of guys asking how to disable charging down the wicket in some of the AI patches for Cricket2004, there you go they got it here. Just looking at the positive side of the upcoming game :)

That's only because of the bug where they go for six every time

And I'm getting rather sick of this "will be in future editions due to lack of time" crap, if you didn't rush the damn game out for the Ashes then you'd have plenty of time to include one of the more important aspects of the sport

No advance shots is a real shame; for a game which looks so promising it's a huge oversight. Although as Ravi said I rarely used them in c2k4; always got stumped or bowled  ;) .
