I think it's a good idea to compile a PlanetCricket readers' World XI. Each week we will have a poll on who should fill a particular role - this week will be opening batsmen.

I think we should have a seperate thread or may be use this one for nominees.If a player gets nominated by 3 or more members,he gets included in the poll.After Current World XI,An alltime World XI should follow.

Idea is good but need to clear a few things mate :

1)Who decides the nominees? I think if it is to be called a PlanetCricket XI then nominees should be selected after a discussion.

2)Is it a ODI team or Test team?

3)What did Chris Gayle do to deserve a spot there? Shane Watson would have been more appropriate choice.

I assume it is for a Test XI? Besides losing the captaincy Gayle hasn't done much of recognition lately.

Sad to see what a few bad months can do to reputation of a player. A year ago Gambhir was in form of his life. Now no one is even mentioning him

But yea, there's going to a debate over "why X isn't included" etc. Like people have mentioned Watson. I certainly would consider him.

I've removed one vote from every nominee.

I'm going to go with Sehwag and Watson.

It also depends if you are having a specific all-rounder category. I'd pick Watson based on the fact that he's my 5th bowler - the batting allrounder.
