Well to be fair Dravid's one of the greatest batsman of all time & New Zealand rarely even play Test Cricket.

But on one hand we have arguably the best captain the game has ever seen taking into consideration the side he's been in charge of. Certainly the most capped one in ODI's and second on the list in Tests. Not only does he no longer have captaincy, but he also retired from ODI's.

And on the other hand, we have a fill-in captain who really doesn't warrent such a big fuss. I guess it's since it's India. New Zealand is ignored as always.

That's me playing the smallest violin in the world. :p

The truth is that India are just a real high profile team, so no matter what happens they always get the top billing when compared to teams like New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and maybe even Pakistan.

That does leave us with a problem-as to who should be the one to succeed him.
I'd say
ODI's- Yuvraj as the first choice
They can also have Karthik or Dhoni

Test-Sourav Ganguly,If not him then maybe Anil Kumble.

Damn. Crap. Censor.
No other candidates in the team. Kaif, maybe.
Go back to Ganguly-I say. He's the only half good captain out there..
But then again he doesn't want it so..

If Kaif gets the Captaincy, more issues will follow... a person, who has been relegated to the A team, and suddenly comes back into the National Side as the Captain???

Not my cup of tea...

I have a feeling, if Sehwag does well in the T20 Matches, he could be a very strong contender. Though intuition tells me its gonna be Yuvraj!!

Ganguly is pointless though, he's not going to be playing for more than 2 years imo. I'd opt for Yuvi, I know he's out of the Test team, but I think Laxman will be dropped.

Ganguly could become the captain, but only as a stop-gap arrangement, for the upcoming 2-3 series.

After that, it would be out of Yuvraj/Dhoni/Sehwag. Whoever performs more consistently would be preferred.

So you basically don't have anyone leading your test side leading up to a series against the World Champions? Owned.

He probably should have gone in ODI's but there really isnt a replacement for him in the test side, unless of course your board wants to bring a player in to be captain, but thats just insane.

I'd say Kaif, he is the best option in India.

Are you aware of what he scored today against SA-A... A big rounded Zero where the team scored 588 for just loss of 4 wickets. We need a consistent performer as well as the aggressive captain. Kaif cannot be brought from nowhere into the team, all of a sudden, as a captain. ( that too when he was sent back to play proper cricket. )

I would say, Yuvraj as he has atleast some aggressive approach within himself. Aggressive in the sense, not in batting style.. but in what you call as some arrogance which is found among best captains like Smith, Fleming and Ponting.

Test-Sourav Ganguly

Ganguly... If i remember right, you were one of the many people who was eager to see senior players like Sourav, Sachin to retire immediately supporting Chapell's view. How come then, all of a sudden, your support for Sourav came from now? :p

Again, these players -- Sourav, Rahul, Sachin are all marching towards the end of the career in some years. I feel, its best to leave them freely and enjoy their cricket for the little time left. Let these type of responsibility job get mounted on upcoming players like Yuvraj, Viru or Karthik. So that even if they make mistakes at the beginning stage, they can learn it from the experienced players( Sachin,Rahul, Sourav ) who are definitely going to be in the team for some more years.

I would go for, Yuvraj like i already said in other thread,

We haven't seen the captaincy of Dhoni though in this Twenty 20.. If that style is aggressive enough, then there would be no problems for India to continue with him.
