rock/metal/ heavy or anything heavier

Yeah, I've been watching it loads and loads of times over, I even recorded it! They are brilliant live! That BBCi thing has been going for a week, and I'm not complaining!

It's great what Matt Bellamy (lead) does with the guitar at the end of Knights of Cydonia.
I also saw a video exclusive last night on Channel 4 of their forthcoming single Starlight.

and yes, I know of metallica, but have listened to most of their famous ones.

what I want is names and songs of some new bands.
Clearly REAL rock fans are few and far between on this site having read some of the suggestions so far.

Clearly, Metallica rule all, and have a new album on the way. :hpraise

However, for some other selections I would suggest the following:

Starting with bands formed from parts of legendary bands....

Audioslave (Singer from Soundgarden + band from Rage Against The Machine). They have already produced two albums. The first, Audioslave, is the better of the two but Out of Exile is definitely worth a listen.

Alter Bridge (Some random but very good lead singer + band from Creed). Their only album One Day Remains is pretty good and rocks hard.

Velvet Revolver (Singer from Stone Temple Pilots + most of the Guns 'n' Roses band). One album so far, Contraband went multi-platinum pretty damn fast. Best song is Slither.

And for a very good Australian alternative, you can't go wrong with The John Butler Trio. Awesome stuff. Not really hard rock as it's all accoustic but they're stuff is, for the most part, outstanding. They've made 3 albums so far, the best of which is Sunrise Over Sea which has some great songs, in particular 'What You Want' and 'Peaches and Cream' which are stunning.

Of their other two albums, Three and John Butler, I would give Three[/] a miss altogther but John Butler is definitely worth a listen if only for the song 'Inspiration' which is definitely my favourite of all their songs.

Finally, for a much less well-known alternative, I suggest The Glitterati whose eponymous first album is awesome. Check out now!

That should keep you busy for a while. :D

I don't really listen to too much of the newer stuff except maybe System of a Down. Of the older bands I suggest Led Zeppelin as they are THE ultimate rock band in my book. Although my personal favorites are AC/DC, head banging rock 'n' roll music with pointless but funny lyrics.

(no guns and roses, I listened to them before I went to LP.can't bear them now...)

First guy who wants to hear Rock but not Gn'R. I'll quote acclaimed rock critic chad driscoll in this regard:
"Suffice it to say that the 1987 album Appetite for Destruction is a benchmark against which few albums in the genre of Heavy Metal (including subsequent GN'R records) can be measured and not deemed inferior"

As for a list of rock bands and musicians, cowburn has already done a fine job, on which I needn't improve, although I would strongly advise you to consider some new rock as well like system of a down and green day, and some urdu rock music of jal and junoon.

Junoon hasn't come out with an album in a while, isn't it? Or maybe I'm just being ignorant. System of a Down is good, but I think they are getting progressively worse. I remember being able to listen to Toxicity start to finish multiple times in a row, but not the same with Steal This Album, Mezmerize and Hypnotize (was Hypnotize the other one? I don't even remember...)

hey thanks people! :cheers
now I have got hold of green day, pantera, black sabbath.they are keeping me busy for a while.

Dude, you should seriously listen to some Dream Theater!!
And since ur the heavier type, check out the "Train of Thought" album, and theyre new one "Systematic Chaos"
It'll blow all the rubbish music out your...nose

Metallica do rule all. I can't wait for their new album. They say it's more along the lines of Master of Puppets so I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Back on topic- You should try listening to Switchfoot, if you haven't already. They are predominantly an alternative rock band and sometimes drift into post-grunge and power-pop.

Here are some good songs by Switchfoot:
  • Adding to the Noise
  • Gone
  • I Turn Everything Over
  • Let That Be Enough
  • Meant to Live
  • Oh! Gravity
  • Stars
Hope this helps :).

Just noticed how old this thread was :D. Sorry.
