South Africa tour of England

Why does this topic not come up on International Tours & Events?

BTW- A lot of friends are getting favours these days- Dhawan once again recalled to the test side. Him and the national captain play for the same state. Same can be said for Root and Ballance right?

Totally outplayed Englishmen, the difference between the two sides was Faf's captaincy... Let me tell you this guy Faf can make South Africa win the ODI World Cup and can take the SA test cricket to the most achievements. What I most liked about him is his calmness, looks a true born leader.

This! I've read AB's autobiography and Faf basically captained him everywhere. In my mind, there's no doubt who the better batsman is of the two, nor the captain/leader!

Ballance has done well in domestic, so it can't be just because he and Root are friends. Doesn't make much sense he is selected because he plays for Yorkshire as well. Dhawan is a favorite of the selectors for some reason. But the problem with some English cricketers is they score tons of runs in domestic but they come into the international scene and they do poorly. An prime example is Greame Hick.

I think the reason why players don't perform is because of the amount of teams England have. If you think about Ben Duckett he made his runs for a Div 2 side that relatively speaking wouldn't exist in SA or Aus.

Ballance scored a heap of runs this domestic season at a ridiculous average ( around 100, if I remember correctly) which led to his selection. I don't think Root has the power or authority at this stage of captaincy to make decisions about domestic selection. I feel with Balance that he has a similar predicament to that of Mark Ramprakash. Mark dominated in First Class cricket all throughout his career but failed during the international outings.

Regarding Dhawan, I feel that he is a little similar to the Rohit Test selection. With Rahul injured and now Vijay out of the calling, India wants an experienced opening batsman - especially one who is riding on the back of a successful CT and WI series. He was the automatic selection in this instance.

That may be so but still they produce high quality players even though there are a lot of teams. Domestic cricket has to get more competitive just like in Australia where there is only about 6 teams and it is very competitive which is why most of their players then perform well in the international scene. Still quite early to drop Ballance already. He has done very well against international teams and has scored heavily in domestic. Agree with Ahmad94 on Ramprakash. County cricket has to be more competetive to produce better players.

Well, all I can say is that if Gary Ballance is the answer to England's no.3 slot, there's something wrong with the selectors. He's a walking wicket!

What ever happened to Duckett?

England selectors weren't smart with Duckett. Took a young, attacking batsmen to India for his debut series, he struggled and they dropped him. Would have loved for him to make his debut in England.

The Proteas will play four Test matches, three One-Day Internationals and three T20 International matches against England while South Africa ‘A’ will play three ‘A’ 50 overs matches against the England Lions as well as one ‘A’ four-day match.

The ICC Champions Trophy Tournament, which is also in England during June 2017, will take place between the Proteas’ one-day and T20 series against England.

Wow thanks for the info. Also what are you on internet explorer?

Apparently it's going to be a greentop at The Oval. SA are favourites, due to England's "over positiveness". Roland-Jones in for Dawson is a must. They should've called up Tom Curran to replace Wood. The guy looks a million bucks.

Jennings already back in the hutch...damn!

debutant in so early - good luck to Westley

Jennings struggled throughout this series, England should probably drop him after this series and play some county games before coming back for the WI series. Philander has looked impressive through this series and continues to do so. Cook playing a gritty knock.

agree re: Jennings - SAF on top once more, England need to score minimum 300 to be competitive....
