They were all good batting pitches, but if a pitch on which teams expect to score 200 on is vastly different from one on which they expect to score 300, then there was obviously some variation. The second ODI was the real stand out, just so little bounce and a lot of balls were staying well down. In the other two matches however, South Africa were able to use shorter lengths better and it helped them rein in the totals, even if their batting wasn't quite up to the task in the first game.

The pitches better not be like this for the WC.
The ICC should say they have to start putting something in it for the bowlers, overwise just take it away from them.

What's the point on bowlers even playing?
You might as well just play five part-timers, as they will get smashed at like 8's, which is just the same as specialist bowlers.

Very true I agree completely. We all agree that Tendulkar played a great innings but lets be honest....where else in the entire world could a double century be made? Where else in the world are the pitches so flat that theres almost no challenge to a batsman? INDIA.

I highly doubt that he would have scored even close to 200 in South Africa, Australia, England or wherever else. Ive said this before and will say it again, the Indian pitches are killing cricket.

No, NZ pitches are much better. The problem is that their grounds are really small. So, the big hitters can wallop any oppostion.

In India, the pitches have been a cause of worry. I have highlighted the same in another thread as well.

He almost scored it in newzealand but due to injury he got retired hurt. Mind you he was on 174 odd runs and he had 10 more overs to score 25 runs

If Herschelle Gibbs scored 175 in South Africa, I don't see why Tendulkar couldn't have been a chance of doing similiarly in the same conditions, except to say that it is obviously an unlikely event that still requires some good fortunes.

So when dealing with a one-off among one-offs, although you could rank the likelihoods, it's probably not accurate to say it could never happen in a certain place. It's a conspiracy of events that is beyond just the skill of the batsman and dullness of the pitch. Even in those circumstances, many batsmen simply don't have enough time on strike, while sometimes batsmen get lives and make more runs than they ought to. How many batsmen must have been in their best form, only to be chasing 250? It just takes one day when everything goes right, not ground after ground with dead pitches and lighting outfields.

However it would be fair to point out that more 150+ ODI scores have occured in India than anywhere else. It does seem like more big scores are possible and Tendulkar, who had been producing many of those scores lately, was in the perfect position to take advantage.

He scored 164* or something in NZ with ~8 overs to go.

That was at the same place McCullum just got his hundred in the T20. CHCH. We have a few pitches which are really flat but most of them are good wickets. Napier and Christchurch are VERY flat.

Where else you set a target of 434 and its chased by the other team? :)
Gibbs scored 175 in that match. He had so much time left to score a 200 he was unlucky but yeah you dont remember your famous wins now? :laugh
