Speed Gun

No, this is not just complaining about everything. Bowling speeds have become an essential part to watching a cricket match these days and it's a requirement to have it for any broadcaster.
Really, I don't miss them at all.

In fact I'm almost glad they aren't there. There is such a ridiculous fascination with bowling speeds today.

Showing the bowling speed is a big part of the presentation, it's a constant in every cricket series and for it to be so horribly flawed in the WC is a pretty big let down.

although being a fan of the Indian cricket team, I can understand why you don't care for the speeds :p

Idk, from what I have watched the speed clocks have shown up regularly. Maybe i'm not watching enough....

Yesterday Steyn bowled a slower delivery to Bravo and it showed 145 kph 90 mph.

That last part probably has a lot do with it.

But honestly, I don't care if a guy bowls at 145 or at 130. There are the 150+ guys who are interesting because the extra speed they get is actually going to trouble batsmen. Anyone in the 130-140 range is probably standard fare for a quality international batsman.

I don't know, of the little I watched of the India-Bangladesh game, I thought the graphics and presentation had been improved significantly since the last time I had watched a game. Probably helped that it was 3.30am and that the stream was HD.

But to me, I really don't need to see the speed of the delivery to see how the batsman reacts to it.

Fair enough but do you at least sympathize that you can't take away a feature that has been used in every previous presentation of an event without people grumbling.

It may be supplemental information, but a lot of analysis, discussion and commentary relies on it. People have grown used to it and to remove it or have it be so faulty for the sports biggest event is not a positive thing.

Let alone the nature of poor display of the speedometer clock . Did someone actually notice the poor manner in which the Powerplays were presented ?? For the first few matches , i always saw 'PP2' being displayed till the end of the game starting from the 11th over . Only today tbh did i actually happen to see 'PP3' !

Actually, I also though that. But, it is they are marked red when they are finished. And, appear in black bg and white font when they are in play.

speed gun itself knows what speed to display for the particular bowler :p

I think sometimes it takes the MPH and puts it in the KPH spot...ie an ~83 mph ball goes into the KPH spot, which then results in an mph reading of like 50.

Or maybe its just crap :p

Poor work by the ICC with the speedometer and Powerplay notification displays. They strike the Powerplays out with a red line that almost doesnt show unless you really close into it. And the speedometer is an embarassment. Their other graphics are good, but these two are very bad.

Yeah I agree that it should be there. And it's kind of weird that it isn't. But imo, it doesn't decrease the value of the product too much. I've been very happy with the presentation package put together.

Pretty sure the onus is on Star, who is producing the broadcast. And the speed guns should be installed by the grounds.
