England vs. West Indies: 1st Test, Day Four, Evening Session LIVE!
David Gower: Welcome back to Old Trafford where the West Indies are struggling and the score is currently 93/5. England will look to take wickets in this session and will possibly be thinking about ending this match. To take you throuh the whole session to the close of play are David Lloyd and Michael Holding.
Michael Holding: Thank you David and the West Indies have really been poor in this match so far and if i am honest they will lose this match. I think the selectors have to go for a different team in the second match otherwise i fear a repeat of what has happened so far in this test match. England on the other hand have looked very good and fully deserve to be where they are in the test world rankings.
The first three overs are bowled by Flintoff and Panesar. Only two runs are conceded before Panesar is about to bowl to Sarwan.
David Lloyd: Panesar to Sarwan who looks in good form and that will be a great boundary. Panesar just drops one a little short and Sarwan is onto it in a flash and beats backward point with a square cut hit very powerfully indeed. It is nice to see some sort of resistance here from the Windies.
Flintoff bowls the next over and concedes two runs before Hoggard replaces Panesar in the attack.
Michael Holding: Hoggard then to Sarwan and that is hit off his legs. Should be cut off but no it isn't. That is poor fielding by Panesar on the boundary and it goes under him and through for a boundary. Sarwan is looking in great form but it would still need to be a miracle if the West Indies were to get themselves out of losing this match.
Flintoff concedes a further 3 runs before Panesar is bowling again replacing Hoggard after conceding 8 runs in his first over of the session.
David Lloyd: Panesar to Sarwan again then and that is a fabulous shot. Not a lot wrong with the delivery yet Sarwan gets his feet to the pitch of the delivery and plays a beautiful square drive which is placed between the fielders and races away for another boundary. Ramnaresh Sarwan has been the best batsman for the West Indies in both innings without a shadow of doubt.
Michael Holding: Michael Vaughan is in the attack now and the two spinners will operate from opposite ends and try and force a wicket. That is too full and Baugh hitsa graceful cover drive for his first boundary. Poor ball from Vaughan and it releases any pressure that built up. However he is only a part time off spinner so you cannot expect him to do what Monty does over after over with the ball.
Panesar bowls a maiden and puts pressure on the West Indies. Vaughan gets ready to bowl another over.
David Lloyd: Baugh on strike then and Vaughan to bowl to him. Runs in and that is a cover drive but it has gone in the air and Ian Bell takes a catch just to the right hand side of him. You have to say that the wicket had been coming and Vaughan has made the breakthrough. Carlton Baugh goes for just seven.
Michael Holding: The next batsamn for the West Indies is Ian Bradshaw who is no mug with the bat but he certainly doesn't have the qualities of an all rounder. England will look to get him out and expose the tail now. This match looks almost over now.
Ian Bradshaw survives the two balls he has to face and then Panesar gets ready to bowl to Ramnaresh Sarwan who is in the fourties and approachin a half century.
David Lloyd: Panesar to Sarwan then and he advances down the wicket and goes for a big hit, is it going all the way? No it isn't he has holed out to long on and that spells disaster for the West Indies. Panesar celebrates his second wicket and sixth in the match as Sarwan makes his way back to the pavilion for a good score of 43.
Michael Holding: The next batsamn is Mervyn Dillon and now the tail is really exposed and England are on the brink of victory. Panesar will look to get another wicket under his belt.
David Lloyd: Here we go then Panesar to bowl to Dillon after just conceding two singles in a row. Bowled him! Panesar strikes yet again and that turned violently and crashed into off stump. What a great delivery and there really wasn't much that he could do about that. Panesar would have got better players with that delivery for sure. Dillon goes for a single to his name.
Michael Holding: The new man at the crease is Pedro Collins who bowled well but i have to say he really can't bat. This is nearly it for the West Indies now, England are on the brink.
David Lloyd: Panesar again then can he make it three wickets in the over? No he can't because that is a cover drive over the head of cover for a boundary and it was a good looking shot from Collins. Panesar looks gutted even though he now has seven wickets in the match. If he gets any more that is just greedy!
Michael Holding: Simon Jones is into the attack then and that is edged to Matt Prior and Ian Bradshaw must now go as well. The West Indies are 127/9 and England are needing one more wicket for the match. That really wasn't a ball to cut. Bradshaw goes for one.
David Lloyd: Corey Collymore is in at number eleven and he will do well to survive an over yet alone a session. England are now ready to win this match and lead the four match series.
Michael Holding: Flintoff is into the attack to try and finish the match and he is bowling to Pedro Collins. Colins goes for a leg glance and it beats fine leg in the circle and Collins has a boundary. He now has two and has tried to prove me wrong by saying he couldn't bat.
David Lloyd: Flintoff in again then and this time Colins drives but it is caught again by Ian Bell in the covers. He really has had a fine match taking many catches and scoring a century. England win and go 1-0 up in the series and they really did perform well.
Michael Holding: If we look at the card for the West Indies we once again see that there was hardly any resistance. Only three men passed into double figures and that really isn't good enough i am afraid. Sarwan reached 43 and was the best by a long way but Hinds and Lara both gave their wickets away on 24 and really needed to go on if the Windies were to have any chance of batting out the rest of the match.
David Lloyd: If we take a look at the England bowling then we can see that once again spin was the crucial thing. Panesar took a further three wickets taking his total in the match to seven while Vaughan picked up two in bowling just three overs. The other wicket takers were Jones who got two and Flintoff and Hoggard who managed one each. Harmison was unlucky to not get any because he bowled well.
Michael Holding: If we look at the match summary we can see that England scored a good 369 with a century from Ian Bell and a good contribution from Pietersen while Pedro Colins was able to take three wickets. The Windies then struggled and only managed 147 in reply with Sarwan top scoring with 39 and Panesar taking four wickets. England enforced the follow on and once again the Windies could only manage a low score, this time 131 with Sarwan getting 43 and no-one else contributing. Panesar took a further three wickets. England win the match by an innings and 91 runs and go 1-0 up in the four match series.
David Lloyd: Join us after the break when we will have the match presentations and interviews with players from both sides as well as the first score put onto the skysports test cricket league. Make sure you join us after the break!
