England vs. West Indies: 1st Test, Day Four, Evening Session LIVE!

David Gower: Welcome back to Old Trafford where the West Indies are struggling and the score is currently 93/5. England will look to take wickets in this session and will possibly be thinking about ending this match. To take you throuh the whole session to the close of play are David Lloyd and Michael Holding.

Michael Holding: Thank you David and the West Indies have really been poor in this match so far and if i am honest they will lose this match. I think the selectors have to go for a different team in the second match otherwise i fear a repeat of what has happened so far in this test match. England on the other hand have looked very good and fully deserve to be where they are in the test world rankings.

The first three overs are bowled by Flintoff and Panesar. Only two runs are conceded before Panesar is about to bowl to Sarwan.

David Lloyd: Panesar to Sarwan who looks in good form and that will be a great boundary. Panesar just drops one a little short and Sarwan is onto it in a flash and beats backward point with a square cut hit very powerfully indeed. It is nice to see some sort of resistance here from the Windies.

Flintoff bowls the next over and concedes two runs before Hoggard replaces Panesar in the attack.

Michael Holding: Hoggard then to Sarwan and that is hit off his legs. Should be cut off but no it isn't. That is poor fielding by Panesar on the boundary and it goes under him and through for a boundary. Sarwan is looking in great form but it would still need to be a miracle if the West Indies were to get themselves out of losing this match.

Flintoff concedes a further 3 runs before Panesar is bowling again replacing Hoggard after conceding 8 runs in his first over of the session.

David Lloyd: Panesar to Sarwan again then and that is a fabulous shot. Not a lot wrong with the delivery yet Sarwan gets his feet to the pitch of the delivery and plays a beautiful square drive which is placed between the fielders and races away for another boundary. Ramnaresh Sarwan has been the best batsman for the West Indies in both innings without a shadow of doubt.

Michael Holding: Michael Vaughan is in the attack now and the two spinners will operate from opposite ends and try and force a wicket. That is too full and Baugh hitsa graceful cover drive for his first boundary. Poor ball from Vaughan and it releases any pressure that built up. However he is only a part time off spinner so you cannot expect him to do what Monty does over after over with the ball.

Panesar bowls a maiden and puts pressure on the West Indies. Vaughan gets ready to bowl another over.

David Lloyd: Baugh on strike then and Vaughan to bowl to him. Runs in and that is a cover drive but it has gone in the air and Ian Bell takes a catch just to the right hand side of him. You have to say that the wicket had been coming and Vaughan has made the breakthrough. Carlton Baugh goes for just seven.

19213392625.jpg

Michael Holding: The next batsamn for the West Indies is Ian Bradshaw who is no mug with the bat but he certainly doesn't have the qualities of an all rounder. England will look to get him out and expose the tail now. This match looks almost over now.

19213392623.jpg

Ian Bradshaw survives the two balls he has to face and then Panesar gets ready to bowl to Ramnaresh Sarwan who is in the fourties and approachin a half century.

David Lloyd: Panesar to Sarwan then and he advances down the wicket and goes for a big hit, is it going all the way? No it isn't he has holed out to long on and that spells disaster for the West Indies. Panesar celebrates his second wicket and sixth in the match as Sarwan makes his way back to the pavilion for a good score of 43.

19213392748.jpg

Michael Holding: The next batsamn is Mervyn Dillon and now the tail is really exposed and England are on the brink of victory. Panesar will look to get another wicket under his belt.

1921339279.jpg

David Lloyd: Here we go then Panesar to bowl to Dillon after just conceding two singles in a row. Bowled him! Panesar strikes yet again and that turned violently and crashed into off stump. What a great delivery and there really wasn't much that he could do about that. Panesar would have got better players with that delivery for sure. Dillon goes for a single to his name.

19213392784.jpg

Michael Holding: The new man at the crease is Pedro Collins who bowled well but i have to say he really can't bat. This is nearly it for the West Indies now, England are on the brink.

19213392777.jpg

David Lloyd: Panesar again then can he make it three wickets in the over? No he can't because that is a cover drive over the head of cover for a boundary and it was a good looking shot from Collins. Panesar looks gutted even though he now has seven wickets in the match. If he gets any more that is just greedy!

Michael Holding: Simon Jones is into the attack then and that is edged to Matt Prior and Ian Bradshaw must now go as well. The West Indies are 127/9 and England are needing one more wicket for the match. That really wasn't a ball to cut. Bradshaw goes for one.

19213392660.jpg

David Lloyd: Corey Collymore is in at number eleven and he will do well to survive an over yet alone a session. England are now ready to win this match and lead the four match series.

19213392638.jpg

Michael Holding: Flintoff is into the attack to try and finish the match and he is bowling to Pedro Collins. Colins goes for a leg glance and it beats fine leg in the circle and Collins has a boundary. He now has two and has tried to prove me wrong by saying he couldn't bat.

David Lloyd: Flintoff in again then and this time Colins drives but it is caught again by Ian Bell in the covers. He really has had a fine match taking many catches and scoring a century. England win and go 1-0 up in the series and they really did perform well.

19213392719.jpg

Michael Holding: If we look at the card for the West Indies we once again see that there was hardly any resistance. Only three men passed into double figures and that really isn't good enough i am afraid. Sarwan reached 43 and was the best by a long way but Hinds and Lara both gave their wickets away on 24 and really needed to go on if the Windies were to have any chance of batting out the rest of the match.

19213392744.jpg

David Lloyd: If we take a look at the England bowling then we can see that once again spin was the crucial thing. Panesar took a further three wickets taking his total in the match to seven while Vaughan picked up two in bowling just three overs. The other wicket takers were Jones who got two and Flintoff and Hoggard who managed one each. Harmison was unlucky to not get any because he bowled well.

19213392664.jpg

Michael Holding: If we look at the match summary we can see that England scored a good 369 with a century from Ian Bell and a good contribution from Pietersen while Pedro Colins was able to take three wickets. The Windies then struggled and only managed 147 in reply with Sarwan top scoring with 39 and Panesar taking four wickets. England enforced the follow on and once again the Windies could only manage a low score, this time 131 with Sarwan getting 43 and no-one else contributing. Panesar took a further three wickets. England win the match by an innings and 91 runs and go 1-0 up in the four match series.

David Gower: Hello and welcome back to Old Trafford where England have wrapped up a comprehensive victory over the West Indies by an innings and 91 runs with two men the starts of the match. Ian Bell scored a brilliant century to post a big score for England and Monty Panesar took seven wickets to bowl the Windies out cheaply twice in a row. I am joined by Sir Ian Botham and Nasser Hussain in the studio now and Nasser what were you most impressed about in this performance from England?

Nasser Hussain: I think everything about this English performance was impressive to be honest. They batted well, fielded superbly and were clinical with the ball. To be honest the West Indies didn't put up much of a fight but England did play very well. They will now be looking to carry this form into the next test at Lord's. I wouldn't think there will be any changes to the side inless there is an injury or something else happens.

David Gower: Ian how do you look at the West Indies performance in this test match? What do they have to do to improve and be more competitive?

Sir Ian Botham: They need a new team really. I mean when you look at their performance in this match it really was dismal. For me there was one positive that one player can take out of this match and that is Ramnaresh Sarwan who played beautifully with the bat. The other batsman were poor, the fielding was mediocre and the bowling was expensive and inconsistent. They have a lot of work to do to be even anywhere near England in the rest of this series.

David Gower: They certainly do, now i understand that we are ready for the post match presentation downstairs in the middle and to take you through it is Michael Atherton.

19305400575.jpg

Michael Atherton: Firstly i would like to welcome the West Indies captain Brian Lara to the stage. Now Brian what and where do you think this test match went wrong for the West Indies?

Brian Lara: England completely outclassed us in every department basically. We didn't bowl well enough and thery managed to post a big total. Then we batted poorly on two occasions and before we knew it we had lost the match. We will look to perform a lot better at Lord's in the next match but we must give credit to Michael Vaughan and his team because they played really well and didn't give us any chances at all.

Michael Atherton: Thanks Brain and now let's welcome Michael Vaughan the winning captain and capatin of England. Michael you must be delighted with the win and the character shown in this match?

Michael Vaughan: Of course it is great to get back to winning ways after our poor showing in the West Indies at the world cup. We needed to get back to winning ways and we certainly did that in a big way. I would like to congratulate all the players but in particular, Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell who batted brillinatly and Monty of course who just cannot stop taking wickets at the minute!

Michael Atherton: Thanks Michael, now intorducing the man of the match who receives ?100,000 and a bottle of champagne and an npower medalion, he took seven wickets in the match, the one and only Monty Panesar!

19305562471.jpg

Michael Atherton: Monty another great match for you, what did you think of your performance and how is the England dressing room feeling after that terrific performance?

Monty Panesar: Obviously it is great to take wickets and i love it. Hopefully i can carry this form forward and play as good in the coming weeks and over the summer and make an impact in world cricket. All of the lads are feeling great today because of this victory but we know there is still a lot of work to do for the lads and we will look to do it.

Michael Atherton: Okay thanks Monty and that concludes the presentation, back to you David.

David Gower: Thanks Michael and now it is time to explain some more about the sky sports test cricket league.

17408200869.jpg

Here are some rules about the league. 10 points will be awarded for a test match win, 5 for a draw and 1 for a lose. If a team win a series they will receive 30 points if the series is drawn they will get 15 points each and if you lose the series you will get two points. An average will then be taken and your total points will be divided by the number of test matches played. This will go on and on and because it is averaged it doesn't matter how many test matches have been played. Here is the newly updated league after this test match!

David Gower: England on top then and they are 1-0 u[p in the series join us next week for match two of this four match series where we will be at Lord's. Goddbye and see you next time!

Nice graph and presentation ceromony. This is excellent works DX. Keep it up!

David Gower: Hello and welcome to the second npower test match between England and the West Indies coming to you live and exclusive from sky sports and the home of cricket, Lord's cricket ground. We are hoping for a rather more competitive match than what we saw at Old Trafford last week and we understand that soem changes have been made to the West Indies for that to happen but first i have in the studio with me David Lloyd and Michael Holding. David what will England be looking to do in this match?

David Lloyd: They will want the win because that will very nearly seal the series and they will then be able to concentrate on the one day cricket which is the area they so badly need to improve in. They will try to build this team as it has been successful and i am sure when one man fails the whole team will get behind him and wish him well so he doesn't get replaced. I know that this particular team feel very together and they all want to be together for as long as possible.

David Gower: Michael what do the West Indies have to do to improve in this match to give themselves a better chance of winning and possibly causing an upset in this series?

Michael Holding: They have to improve in batting, bowling and fielding and they will need to do it quickly. The younger guys have to stand up and be counted and the more experienced players have to prove they are deserving of their place because in the last test match they certainly didn't show anything at all. For the West Indies it is important to try and gain some confidence because they feel much more comfortable in the one day format of the game.

David Gower Right thanks guys i understand now we can cross live to Nasser Hussain who is ouutside the dressing rooms and has all of the team news for us involving this test match.

17304500157.jpg

Nasser Hussain: Thanks David and i certainly do, on the England side of things there are no surprises because they played so well at Old Trafford it is an unchanged side but for the West Indies as expected there are a few changes, but only two which is maybe less than some anticipated. Firstly Dwayne Bravo comes in for Marlon Samuels who didn't bat well at all and din't bowl a single over and secondly the Windies have opted for the fast Fidel Edwards instead of Ian Bradshaw in this match. It will be very interestin to see if he can rough up the England batsman and cause a few more problems than they want.

David Gower: Thanks Nasser so here are the teams in full then. For England it is, Vaughan, Cook, Bell, Pietersen, Collingwood, Flintoff, Prior, Simon Jones, Harmison, Hoggard and Panesar. For the West Indies it is Hinds, Gayle, Lara, Chanderpaul, Sarwan, Bravo, Baugh, Dillon, Collins, Collymore and Edwards. Now we can head out to the pitch where Sir Ian Botham is with the two captains and ready for teh toss.

4z4i06v.jpg

Sir Ian Botham: Thanks David and this pitch is teh complete opposite to what we saw at Old Trafford, this is a seamers paradise. It is damp and will have indifferent bounce and it will turn for the spinners. The batsman will be challenged all day and will have to play very well to get passed 200 on here. For me if i won the toss it would be an obvious decision to bowl because as well as the pitch it is grey and there should be plenty of swing out here this morning. So the toss is ready and heads is the call from Lara but it is tails. Michael Vaughan has won the toss for England. Michael what are you going to do?

Michael Vaughan: We are as you correctly predicted going to bowl. This pitch looks hel;pful and Jones, Harmy, Hoggard and Freddie will like it and also Colly and Panesar will get a bit out of it. We want to bowl the Windies out cheaply and get a big score and win the second match so we are going ot bowl and be aggressive in the field.

Sir Ian Botham: The story here then is that England have won the toss and elected to bowl on a helpful pitch.

_61076_Copy_of_lords.jpg

David Gower: Right so England will bowl and the West Indies will bat. There is a view of the Lord's pavilion and when we return the players will be ready to kick off the second test of the summer. Join us after the break!

great pres mate! I really am enjoying reading this! Lets hope WI put up a better fight this time! wd!

England vs. West Indies: 2nd Test, Day One, Morning Session LIVE!

17306380850.jpg

David Gower: Welcome back to Lord's where we are very near to getting this second npower test match underway so let's just give you one reminder of the team here and then hand you straight over to Michael Atherton and Michael Holding who are in the commentary box ready for the start of this second test match with England leading the series 1-0.

17305063880.jpg

Michael Atherton: Thank you very much David and we are ready to get this match underway as the players walk out of the pavilion, firstly the England fielders shortly followed by the West Indies batsman, Wavell Hinds and Chris Gayle who both made one start in the first test match so they will be hoping for better things in this match. Let's have a look at the batsmen now in more detail.

19413553974.jpg
19413553892.jpg

The first five overs of the morning pass with just two runs being scored and it is Matthew Hoggard to continue and bowl his third over to Chris Gayle. The ball is swinging around nicely for the bowlers.

Michael Holding: Hoggard to bowl to Chris Gayle who has yet to get off the mark then. Bowled him! Gayle goes and his stumps are out of the ground. It went through the gate swinging in late and Gayle could do nothin a fine piece of bowling which makes the West Indies lose an early wicket it is 2/1 and Hoggard has struck!

19413553897.jpg

Michael Atherton: The West Indies have lost their first wicket then and the new batsman is the brilliant captain and the legendary man that is Brian Lara. He has been unstoppable in the past and will we see a repeat of fine batting here at the home of cricket, lord's?

19413553763.jpg

Another four overs pass with the score moving to 5/1 and the West Indies growing in confidence after a shaky start to their innings.

Michael Holding: Harmison to bowl to Hinds then and that is a beautiful stroke through the covers which beats the diving fielder and races away to the boundary for the first one of the innings. Harmison is not hasppy but Hinds looks rather happy with himself because that was a great shot.

Michael Atherton: Matthew Hoggard to continue then and he will bowl to Brian Lara and that is the same as last over it is a wonderfully timed cover drive which goes for Brian Lara's first boundary and the West Indies move on to 14/1 and are starting to look slightly more in control of what they are doing.

4 overs pass with the West Indies steadily adding runs to the total and Flintoff is brought into the attack with the score 20/1.

Michael Holding: Flintoff into the attack then can he make a breakthrough here? He will bowl to Wavell Hinds who is looking comfortable with the support as well from Brian Lara. That is four, timed to perfection another boundary through the covers and Hinds looking happy with himself again because he has now played two or three beauties through that area.

4 overs pass and it is 30/1, Simon Jones is introduced into the attack by Michael Vaughan.

Michael Atherton: Jones to bowl to Hinds then, this is his first over and he has conceded two runs so far. Got him that is caught at square leg. Played it off his legs but it went up and it is an easy catch for Flintoff. Simon Jones celebrates and so he should. Hinds goes for a good innings of sixteen but the West Indies are 32/2.

19413553959.jpg

Michael Holding: The new man is the resilient Shivnarine Chanderpaul but by his standards he had a very poor outing last time and the West Indies need a big innings from him this time you feel. Can he answer the critics and score big or can England continue to build momentum?

19413553994.jpg

5 overs pass with Chanderpaul yet to get off the mark and being very cautious. Lara picks up 5 runs and the score is 38/2. Lara is on strike to Jones bowling the last over before lunch.

Michael Atherton: Lara on strike then and that is overpitched by Simon Jones and it will race away to the boundary. That will be lunch as well and a good way to end the session from a West Indies point of view although you would have to say they have a lot of work to do in the rest of the day yet.

Michael Holding: Taking a look at the West Indies scorecard you can see that the two men to go were Chris Gayle first being clean bowled by Matthew Hoggard and receiving a duck to his name while Wavell Hinds looked good until he chipped one to square leg while on sixteen. Lara has played well and is 25 not out while Chanderpaul is yet to score off of 23 deliveries. The West Indies are 43/2 at lunch on day one of this npower test match.

19414201852.jpg

Michael Atherton: As for the England bowlers they have all bowled well and neatly bowling consistent lines and Hoggard and Simon Jones have picked up a wicket each after Harmison opened the bowling well. Flintoff has been the target of some shots from the batsman but has played well as well. Overall England are definitely on top and the West Indies will look to change that this afternoon.

19413553837.jpg

Michael Holding: Join us after the break where we will be lookin at some of the rising stars in world cricket and the team give their opinions on future superstars.
