England vs. West Indies: 2nd Test, Day One, Evening Session LIVE!

17306380850.jpg

David Gower: Hello and welcome back to the home of cricket Lord's where we are all ready for the evening session of play with the West Indies batting and on 113/3 with Chanderpaul approaching what would be the first half century for the West Indies this series. To take you through the action it will be Sir Ian Botham and Michael Holding.

The first over passes and Monty bowls a maiden to set the tone. Flintoff is going to bowl the 59th over from the other end.

Sir Ian Botham: Right Flintoff to bowl to Chanderpaul then and from England's point of view he really is the danger man here. Flintoff running in and that will be four. Great cover drive perfectly timed which races away to the boundary. Chanderpaul is now on 49. The last ball of the over then and that is down to fine leg from Chanderpaul for a single which brings up a brilliant fifty. Great innings here with 6 fours and 1 six so far.

19707475027.jpg

The next three overs pass with 5 runs being scored and the score is now 123/3. Flintoff is to continue.

Michael Holding: Flintoff to Chanderpaul then. This is the third ball of the over and that is chipped over the top of mid on and it will skip away off this fast outfield for another boundary. Shiv Chanderpaul is really frustrating the England bowlers here and that is also the 50 partnership between Sarwan and Chanderpaul.

19707475061.jpg

Sir Ian Botham: Chanderpaul on strike again for the last ball of the over and Flintoff runs in again, same shot again but this time he has got hold of it and that is going miles. It sails over the rope and ten rows back for a magnificent six. Flintoff doesn't like it but Chanderpaul looks unstppable here.

Michael Holding: Chanderpaul on strike again then and Monty Panesar bowling to him. What a fine shot that is advancing down the wicket and hitting it over the top of the cover fielders for a four after just one bounce. England need a breakthrough here because they are struggling to hold Chanderpaul here.

Sir Ian Botham: Here we go Matthew Hoggard has been brought into the attack replacing Flintoff and he will look to get this wicket that England so badly need. Runs in then and got him! Chanderpaul slices a cover drive straight to Michael Vaughan at gully. England are jubilant they have managed to get rid of Shiv Chanderpaul for 66 runs. Hoggard now has two wickets to his name.

19707475268.jpg

Michael Holding: That is a key moment in this match so far then and this is also a big moment for the man walking to the crease. Dwayne Bravo is replacing Marlon Samuels in this match to get some runs but will he deliver with the bat?

19707475137.jpg

2 overs pass with 1 run being scored and Monty Panesar is ready to bowl to Dwayne Bravo.

Sir Ian Botham: Right Dwayne Bravo on strike and MOnty to bowl to him. Goes for a forward defence but it bounces and turns and goes in the air to silly point where Alistair Cook greatly receives the catch and the West Indies lose their fifth wicket and now they have fear of a collapse after twice falling quickly at Old Trafford in the first test. The score is 141/5.

19707475174.jpg

Michael Holding: The West Indies lose two wickets in quick succession and this man needs some runs because his wicket keeping position is by no means safe. Carlton Baugh needs a significant score to strengthen his position in the team.

19707475018.jpg

3 overs pass with 2 runs being scored but Sarwan is still there and Baugh looks good at the minute.

Sir Ian Botham: Right Simon Jones is into the attack replacing Monty Panesar. This is the last ball of the over and it has been a good over he has given nothing away so far. Bowls to Sarwan and he pulls but it is straight to the man at square leg who takes an easy catch. The West Indies tail is now exposed and they are in trouble. It is 144/6 and Sarwan goes for 14.

19811060068.jpg

Michael Holding: Like you said Beefy the West Indies tail is now exposed and England will be confident of getting rid of them cheaply and putting themselves in a great position in this match. The new batsman is Mervyn Dillon who has a tendency to hang around although he doesn't score many runs.

19707475163.jpg

6 overs pass and 4 runs are scored very unconvincingly. Harmison is now into the attack and is ready to bowl to Carlton Baugh.

Sir Ian Botham: Right Harmison into the attack then and he will want some wickets to make his figures look better than what they do at the minute. Harmison running in then and he is bowled! Reverse swinging yorker shatters the stumps and Carlton Baugh is comprehensively beaten. He goes for 5 and the West Indies are 148/7.

19707475154.jpg

Michael Holding: The new man for the Windies is Pedro Collins and now England will certainly want to finish this before the end of the days play. They have five overs to do it in so they will have to be quick about it.

19707475163.jpg

2 overs pass and 1 run is scored. Freddie Flintoff is now into the attack to partner Harmison. Flintoff is about to bowl the 82nd over to Pedro Collins.

Sir Ian Botham: Andrew Flintoff brought into the attack by Michael Vaughan then and he is ready to bowl to Pedro Colins. Runs in and that is full and swinging. Edged and gone! Alistair Cook catches it diving at second slip. Great catch and the West Indies are in all sorts of trouble here. It is 149/8.

19707475192.jpg

Michael Holding: All i can say is oh dear. Corey Collymore is in at number ten and England will finish this now i would have thought. Does he even know what a bat is?

19707475168.jpg

Sir Ian Botham: Right Harmison is back and ready to bowl. Runs in and Collymore edges one to Matt Prior. England are having a great time out here. Another wicket falls and it is nearly over now. The West Indies are 150/9.

19707475175.jpg

Michael Holding: The new man is number eleven batsman Fidel Edwards. He will just go for it that is the way he bats so you can expect some action now for sure. However it wouldn't surprise me if the innings comes to an end within the next over.

19707475144.jpg

Sir Ian Botham: Right the last over before the close of play then and Flintoff is bowling. He is ready to finish off the innings but can he do it here. First ball then and that is blocked. That was an anti climax. Right Flintoff running in again and that is edged straight to Matt Prior behind the stumps and the innings is over. Mervyn Dillon is gone and the West Indies 1st innings total is 152 all out.

19707475180.jpg

Michael Holding: If we take a look at the West Indies scorecard you can see that the first few were okay apart from Chris Gayle who got another duck. Hinds made sixteen while Lara score in the thirties again. The star from the West Indies point of view was undoubtedly Shiv Chanderpaul who scored 66 and really needed to go on. Sarwan made fourtenn and everyone else failed to make it to 10. There was a massive collapse as the West Indies lost their last six wickets for just 12 runs. That is not good enough at this level.

19707475252.jpg

Sir Ian Botham: As for the England bowlers they all bowled well and every one of them picked up two wickets. This shows that all five of the bowlers used troubled the different batsman in their own ways. Flintoff and Harmison dispatched of the tail enders while Hoggard got two big wickets and Panesar and Jones were the workhorses as usual and got their rewards.

19707475125.jpg

Michael Holding: Join us after the break when we will analyse all the play we have seen on the first day of this second npower test match from Lord's.

David Gower: Hello and welcome back to Lord's where we have seen a fascinating first days play and England have managed to bowl out the West Indies for a low score of 152 but that is not that bad on this very damp pitch which the ball was moving all around on. I am now joined in the studio by David Lloyd and Michael Atherton. Michael firstly what did you make of the West Indies batting performance?

Michael Atherton: Well to be honest it really wasn't a lot better than their displays at Old Trafford but one man for obvious reasons stood out. Shiv Chanderpaul made 66 and played some cracking shots for fours and sixes. He had a poor first test match but he played really well today. The West Indies need more than one player though if they are to seriously challenge England in this match and in this series.

David Gower: Now to you David all of the England bowlers took and even share of the wickets each getting two but who really were the ones that stood out in your mind?

David Lloyd: Three men, Monty, Hoggard and Simon Jones. Flintoff and Harmison struggled against the batsmen and got their wickets at the end which was easy for them but the hard work was done by Hoggard who got Gayle and Chanderpaul, by Jones who got Hinds and Sarwan and by Panesar who got Lara again and Bravo. The man who really bowled consistently for me was Simon Jones who is bowling beautifully and is very confident with himself.

David Gower: Thanks guys now we can go downstairs where Michael Holding is standing by with Shivnarine Chanderpaul who scored 66 in today's innings.

19707475027.jpg

Michael Holding: Shiv you batted brilliantly today while those around you were struggling. What was the secret of playing on this surface?

Shiv Chanderpaul: Well it was quite simple as the pitch is slow you have to play it late because the ball moves around a lot. Once you get in i found that it got a lot easier and you were able to play your shots a little more. I am slightly disappointed that i didn't go on but it happens and now i just hope i can carry my form on and play a major part in this series for the West Indies.

Michael Holding: Thanks Shiv now back to the studio.

David Gower: Thanks Michael now that is it today so we leave you with a final look at the West Indies scorecard and tomorrow England will bat. The West Indies lead by 152 runs. Goodbye!

19707475252.jpg

15111 sounds like some toll free number ;) What a collapse.

Btw, if i am right, you manage this with the paint tool right? Anyways hats off to you mate for ur hard efforts.. Hope you carry on these efforts...Keep it up!

England vs. West Indies: 2nd Test, Day Two LIVE!

17306380850.jpg

David Gower: Hello and welcome to the second day of this second npower test match between England and the West Indies. In the first day we saw the Windies bowled out for 152 and today it is England who will bat but we do have rain forecast so we may not see much play today as it stands. However we are scheduled to get underway on time and to take you through this first session it is Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain.

Michael Atherton: Thanks David and yes we are forecast a lot of rain here today but we might get away with it. Anyway England are to bat and the two openers as they were at Old Trafford are the captain Michael Vaughan and the young gun Alistair Cook who has has an amazing start to his international career.

19915445171.jpg
19915445088.jpg

The first three overs are bowled by Fidel Edwards and Corey Collymore. Only one run is scored and Collymore is about to bowl the fourth over of the day.

Nasser Hussain: Collymore to bowl then and no because it is starting to rain heavily here at Lord's. The players are quickly off the field and it looks like it could be a lengthy delay here. We will be back with any news we get on the weather situation and we can only hope for some play on this second day of this test match.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

David Gower: Right we have lost two whole sessions and we are ready to restart here with England 1/0 and it is 5:15 here on Day two. England will have a tricky period to see out this evening and i suspect the outfield will be very slow because of all of the rain we have had. To take you through this session are Sir Ian Botham and David Lloyd.

Sir Ian Botham: Thanks David and yes we haven't got long here i would say the possibility of about 10-12 overs of play before the close and Collymore is ready to bowl to Michael Vaughan. Runs in and Vaughan goes for a leg side shot but he has chipped it straight to the man at square leg, Pedro Collins. Not the start England wanted at all. They are 1/1 and Vaughan goes for a duck.

19915445134.jpg

David Lloyd: The new man for England is Ian Bell who made a century in the first test against the West Indies. He is a fine player and he will look to carry on his fine form here in this match. Can he have a big partnership with Alistair Cook or will England lose another wicket?

One over passes with one run being scored.

Sir Ian Botham: Collymore to continue then and he bowls. That goes straight through to the keeper but he hasn't gathered it and it goes straight to the boundary for four byes. That really was poor wicket keeping and the bowler will not be happy with that mistake at all. It wasn't even hard to catch!

3 overs pass and England move the score on to 14/1. Collymore is to continue to bowl to Ian Bell.

David Lloyd: Here Ian Bell is then and Collymore runs in and that is on Bell's legs and he strokes it away. They only manage three as the outfield is very slow. That would have been four in the West Indies innings for sure but all the rain we have had has not helped the natting team here. Collymore back to his mark then and runs in. That is in the air and he has gone! Went for a leg glance and straight to the man at square leg again much like Michael Vaughan got dismissed. Ian Bell goes for just 5 and England are 18/2.

19915445124.jpg

Sir Ian Botham: This is exactly what England didn't want as they have lost two early wickets. They now must get to the end of the day's play without losing anymore. Kevin Pietersen is now at the crease and he must not be stupid here he has to play sensibly.

19915445137.jpg

The last five overs pass with England scoring freely and in particular Kevin Pietersen. He gets to fifteen with a few threes and good running between the wickets.

David Lloyd: Right that is the close of play here on day two so let's have a look at the scorecard. England have struggled a bit and find themselves 36/2 at the end of day two which effectively makes this a four day match. Vaughan went for a duck, Bell went for five and they both gave their wickets away by playing in the air to square leg. Cook and Pietersen have looked good and have both reached double figures.

19915445113.jpg

Sir Ian Botham: As for the West Indies bowlers they have bowled really well in contrast to what they managed at Old Trafford. Edwards pace has troubled England and they have struggled to score of the slingy bowler. They have scored just 10 runs off his eight overs. Dillon has bowled one over and conceded five runs while Collymore has picked up both the wickets so far. Overall a good day for the West Indies but England still on top.

19915445165.jpg

David Lloyd: Join us after the break for the analysis at the end of day two.

End Of Day Two Analysis

19305250034.jpg

17413405660.jpg

David Gower: Welcome back to Lord's and at the end of a rain interupted day two of this second npower test match England are 36/2 and have had a minor wobble in losing Michael Vaughan the skipper for a duck and Ian Bell for just five. Alistair Cook and Kevin Pietersen have played well and are both into the double figures. With me in the studio now are Michael Holding and Michael Atherton to review the days play. Firstly Michael Holding what did you think of the new bowler Fidel Edwards? He seemed to cause a few problems for the England batsmen don't you think?

sp3.jpg

Michael Holding: I think he bowled very well and despite not getting a wicket he has troubled the batsman with his fast bowling and his unorthodox slingy action. He bowled straight and full and if you can do that as a bowler it is very hard to score because you are defending your wicket more than attacking the bowlers. He really did impress me today but he needs to be consistent and do the same tomorrow and for the rest of the test match.

David Gower: Now turning my attention to you Athers what do the English batsmen have to do tomorrow and how will they see today. Will they be disheartened at all or will they be confident they can build a big total on this pitch which is helping the bowlers?

_42361561_cookkp416.jpg

Michael Atherton: I don't think they will be too unhappy with the position they find themselves in. However if Michael Vaughan keeps failing he may be demoted down the order and Andrew Strauss brought back. I think that this partnership between Alistair Cook and Kevin Pietersen is crucial if England are to post a big total. I don't think it is going to be easy though because this pitch is very hard to bat on. The ball is seaming and swinging and it is very hard for the batsmen out there.

David Gower: Right that is how the analysts see it and we will see you tomorrow for what is sure to be another fascinating day's play here at the home of cricket, Lord's. Make sure you join us.

Great analysis there :clap Ya, things need to be worked on for England regarding that demotion issue of Vaughan.. may be to no 3 with Strauss back. Sad to see him go early.. oh well, Windies in nice position in bowling though.. Keep up the great works :)

i am on holiday from today until the 31st july so you can expect an update on the 1st august make sure you don't forget about me lol c ya in 10 days guys and once again thank you to everyone that is reading my story

England vs. West Indies: 2nd Test, Day Three, Morning Session LIVE!

17306380850.jpg

David Gower: Hello and welcome to day three of this second npower test match between England and the West Indies. England lost a lot of time yesterday due to the typical English weather so today they will look to score a big total and give themselves a great chance of winning this match. We are just about ready for the morning session of play and to take you through it are Michael Holding and David Lloyd.

David Lloyd: Thanks David. England will look to take control of this match indeed because they lost two wickets yesterday but at the crease are Pietersen and Cook who will be confident they can build an innings for England.

The first two overs of the day pass with six runs being scored moving the score to 42/2.

Michael Holding: Alistair Cook on strike then and that is a fine shot through the leg side for three runs. This outfield is very slow indeed. Dillon has got away with that. Dillon to run in again to Kevin Pietersen then. Bowled him! Pietersen goes and the ball shatters his off stump. He misjudged one and it nipped back. That is a big wicket for the Windies and they are jubilant. Pietersen goes for a start of 22 and will be disappointed.

21207185191.jpg

David Lloyd: England are in a bit of trouble here with three down as Paul Colingwood comes to the crease. Can he get a score and help England out of some trouble here?

21306103820.jpg

7 overs pass and England move onto 68/3 with Collingwood struggling and Cook looking very good indeed. Edwards is bowling to Collingwood.

Michael Holding: Fidel Edwards has looked dangerous this morning. Paul Collingwood has survived so far but can he for much longer because he is looking very uncomfortable? Edwards running in then and he has bowled him! The pace beat Collingwood and he must head back to the dressing room after making just five for the England cause. It is 71/4.

21207185246.jpg

David Lloyd: The new man is Freddie Flintoff and we could do with a good innings because England are struggling with the exception of Alistair Cook who has looked very good.

4 more overs pass with another ten runs being added mainly by Flintoff and a few by Cook. Cook is on strike and Collymore has been brought into the attack.

Michael Holding: Cook on strike then and here is Collymore. That will be a boundary whipped away down very fine and for the first boundary of the innings because of the very slow outfield. Cook is now on 42 and loking very comfortable indeed. Collymore to run in again then and that is a majestic cover drive for another boundary. That races away off the bat and beats the infield. Cook is now on 46. He is looking very good.

David Lloyd: Dillon to carry on then and Cook is now on 49 not out needing one for a half century and there it is down to fine leg. That is a great innings and the youngster showed real patience and resilience to get there. Just two fours so he has had to work very hard for it. Well done to Alistair Cook.

21207185099.jpg

1 over passes and 1 run is scored bringing Cook back on strike to face Mervyn Dillon in the 36th over.

Michael Holding: Alistair Cook on strike then and Dillon to bowl. Bowled him! Cook went for a cover drive and it nipped back and took off stump out of the ground and it was going to take something special to get rid of Cook because he was playing beautifully. A great knock ends with Cook having to go for 51. England are 94/5.

21207185142.jpg

David Lloyd: The new man for England is the explosive Matt Prior but i would like to see him play a patient innings and make sure England at least get a lead in the first innings because they are in a lot of trouble here.

21207185122.jpg

2 overs pass with four runs being scored.

Michael Holding: Prior on strike then and Collymore to bowl his medium fast pace. That is aggressive into the air and one bounce for four. Great shot from Prior and he picked that one up very early. England need a contribution from him but is this the right approach?

The 40th over is bowled by Dillon and he concedes two runs.

David Lloyd: Matt Prior on strike then and Collymore bowling. Goes for a cover drive but it is in the air and straight to Dwayne Bravo in the covers. That is not what they wanted because now the tail is exposed. Matt Prior goes for 7 and England are 107/6.

21207185252.jpg

Michael Holding: The new man for England is Simon Jones and he has to support Flintoff here if England are to have any sort of chance.

21207185249.jpg

David Lloyd: Right Fidel Edwards to bowl to Flintoff then. The last ball of the over about to be bowled. Two runs off the over so far. Flintoff to the man at the covers and goes for a quick single to retain strike but it is a direct hit! Flintoff is gone! The tail is now fully exposed and Flintoff goes for six. England are in all sorts of trouble here. They are 115/7.

21207185184.jpg

Michael Holding: The new man at the crease for England is Steve Harmison who is normally aggressive so we could see some fireworks here with just three overs until the lunch interval.

21207185269.jpg

The next over passes with ten runs being ran by the batsmen. They are looking to boost the total and od it quickly to gain some of the time lost.

David Lloyd: Fidel Edwards to bowl to Steve Harmison then. Harmison has a drive and it is sliced over backward point for a very lucky boundary but he will take it however it happens. Edwards back to his mark then and this time Simon Jones is on strike after Harmison just ran a single. Runs in and that is miles in the air on the leg side but it is four after one bounce. Jones has a slice of luck and gets a boundary. This is helpful for England but the West Indies won't like it. Edwards now to bowl to Harmison the last ball of the over. Gone! Harmison tries to hit it over the slips but instead it goes straight to Collymore at third slip. Harmison departs for 5.

2120718529.jpg

Michael Holding: The man at number ten for England is the blocker known as Matthew Hoggard. There is one over until lunch so these two need to survive that over for England.

21207185292.jpg

The last over brings five more runs for England before umpires Simon Taufel and Billy Bowden call lunch on day three of the first npower test.

David Lloyd: At lunch on day three we can look at the England scorecard and see that they really have failed with the bat this morning. They are 140/8 still twelve runs behind the West Indies and are real trouble. The only man to play well was Alistair Cook who made a fity and Pietersen who fell victim to a majestic delivery from Dillon. Other than that the batsman struggled.

21207185181.jpg

Michael Holding: As for the West Indies bowlers the best have been Mervyn Dillon and Fidel Edwards. They both have a couple of wickets and have bowled very accurately constantly asking the batsmen questions. Collymore has managed to pick up three wickets despite bowling poorly. He is going at over four an over depite the conditions helping. That is simply not good enough.

21207185277.jpg

David Lloyd: Join us after the break for the second young guns team to be revealed this time by Nasser Hussain. Make sure you join us after the break!

England in a heap of mess. The Windies have bowled brilliantly! Great pres mate!
