RACING The new F1 game from Codies

Yup. That's always going to be a problem with press conferences. The responses have to be set, so it's quite difficult to open it up.

The pit stop bug in career mode is a real show stopper. Had my first three races in career mode, each time battled to 8th/9th, came into pit (doesn't matter what stage of the race I pit), come back out and am 23rd/24th. Worse still some of the AI drivers do not pit at all (dry conditions you have to pit at least once to change tyres). Also seen a couple of where cars have crashed, then a couple of seconds later they are right behind me again.

There are some shocking bugs in this game, not surprised that they have got through because Codies don't seem to have any bug testers who do their job properly. Lets hope that they release a patch, but not holding me breath after the Cricket Games didn't get a patch.

F1 games are made inhouse by Codies which makes any patch easier than for a cricket game. As I said before though good to see engagement from the dev team straight after release in contrast to the continued silence after IC10.

They will definitely release a patch. And yes, the pit stop bug is the only major one. But it doesn't stop it being a great game!

Yep, the length of career determines what teams you start in, for example I'm doing 7 season and am in a Lotus. Do 3 seasons and you get to choose one of the top, 5 and one of the middle teams.

The handling is superb. It's a bit buggy, but the pit stop bug, for example, can be overcome by pitting at a different time to the AI. It's not one of those games where the bugs hold it back a lot, certainly not how I've found it.

Seven seasons is the most you can have, isn't it? Anyway, regarding the handling, how does it stack up to GP4 for you? This is one of the most crucial points for me. Also, does the AI try to stop you overtaking and is it easy to look sideways at someone to see how close you are to bumping wheels with them?

Regarding the pitstop bug, I read on Codies' forum that they're already on it. Maybe the patch will include an option to drive the damn car in the pitlane yourself - it's AI controlled right now, isn't it?

timmy, go back and do your F1 story :p

I've been waiting ages for an update.

I also hear over on that bugs forum that they don't even use the write times for qualifying so they just had the cars drive around the track and then just set them a time. Although that wouldn't worry me too much.

Come on. Hurry up and get here. I'm eagerly waiting to play the game.

You control throttle/brake in the pits, so you can overshoot your pit box which will cost you time.

Handling is engaging, I didn't drive GP4, it's very easy to lose the rear if you're not careful on the throttle. Likewise, quite easy to lock the brakes (presuming you have all aids off). I wouldn't say it's a Sim with it's handling, but it's good fun.

Yes, AI will try to block. The AI in racing conditions is exceptional in this game. Yes, you have an option to map a look right and look left option. It's L3/R3 on my wheel.

Mehh, I've hardly been affected by any of these bugs, although I was always freaked out by the wierd A.I. and no split times given. I think, all these people complaining are obviously not real F1 fans and have the time to slate bugs like these. They should be thankful F1 games are back, and that patches will be released because Codies are taking it very seriously. Online is the best part!

And Hedger, I have so much work as I'm in my last year of school. May re-start when I get my week off soon :D

I can't believe that they'd even try and get away with faking the AI. Its just ridiculous.

I know there is alot of this when games are released which don't reach expectations but those who have the game could easily sue Codies for claiming the game was a simulation.

Themer added 2 Minutes and 49 Seconds later...

This is a sort of fundamental thing they almost certainly won't fix with a patch as well.

They've basically made the design choice to not bother making a racing AI. No hope in hell of them patching it.

The fact that they have closed the thread without even denying the claims is very revealing for me.

Apparently it was confirmed on Twitter. They're hoping to "have it next time". As others have said I can't understand why something that was standard 20 years ago is suddenly too hard to implement.
A bit like cricket games and stat tracking...
I'll wait for some more reviews and bug reports but it's putting me off buying it for now.
