Battle of the Minnows-Bangladesh-Ireland Review

24peaee.jpg

Suhrwadi Shuvo debuts

Today we see the encounter between two minnows of the tournament. Yes it is the match between Bangladesh and Ireland. Bangladesh failing to seal their last match against India will be hoping for a victory in this match. Ireland on the other hand hasn't yet played a single game in the tournament and they will be coming as underdog in this match.

Bangladesh failed to score 15 more runs as India won the game. The brilliant performance from the opener S.Nafees went into vain as Bangladesh felt short of their given target. Bangladeshi bowlers did well and their batsman also started of well but completely lost the momentum in between the match. As the Bangladesh never regained this lost momentum. This lost of momentum saw the game go in the favor of the Indians. Das the new manager of Bangladesh stated to the news that he is happy to see the improvement in the performance of his team but disappointed with performance from the Captain All Rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Das thinks that Shakib could have contributed to the run chase a bit more. Shakib who went out first ball had a poor match against the Indians both with the bat as well as the ball.

Bangladesh will be playing their same batting line up but a change has been seen in their bowling line up. We see that Mortaza has been dropped after a poor performance in the last match and his replacement is the youth spinner in Shuvo. The bowlers in the last match did well as well as some batsman like Nafees, Nazimuddin, Mahumdulla. This time they need the support from the other batsman especially from the Captain Shakib Al Hasan. The bowlers too need support from him as well.

Ireland will be opening their tournament book with this match. They will give their full strength in order to seal this one and seal their place in the Super 8. They will be lead from the front by their Captain, Bowling All Rounder Johnston. The openers for their team will be Botha and Porterfield. Their middle order consist of the two O'Brien brothers, White and Cusack. Their bowling department consist of McCallan, West, Rankin and Connell.

With both teams going full strength in order to get a win in their favor, who will be odd one out?

Tough chase ahead of Bangladesh

52072_rasel.jpg

Syed Rasel who took 4-25.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl first again in the encounter against Ireland. Alam who started the bowling for Bangladesh again started off well with the ball. Syed Rasel was given the ball and had to bowl from the other ends had strike with the ball in his first over as he took the wicket of one of the openers Porterfield. Syed Rasel didn't stop taking wickets yet as he took the second wicket of the game as the All Rounder Kevin O'Brien was gone the first ball when he edged the ball to 3rd slip. With Ireland in trouble at 2 wickets down for 8 they was safe from getting into deeper trouble as the umpire turned down the lbw appeal from pacer Syed Rasel. Pressure had started building upon the Ireland batsman but White tried to take pressure of them by smashing a four. The debutant Suhrwadi Shuvo was given the ball this time and he started off well really well by giving away few singles only. His spin partner Razzak was brought at the other end who had his first celebration as he got the wicket of White. The inexperience of Shuvo was taken as a plus point as the Ireland batsman took this opportunity to hit some fours of Shuvo's bowling. Razzak too was smashed for a four by the O'Brien brother the next over.

Ireland were 3 for 40 and going at run rate of 5 need to improve their run rate in order to set a total which could be defended by the Irish bowlers. Shuvo was still being smashed all throughout the ground as he gave away 12 precious runs in his previous over. Shakib was the man replacing Razzak, who has done well so far in this game. Shakib got a warm welcome from the batsman as he gave away a boundary in the first delivery itself. He then gave away another four in that over which took Ireland to 63/3 at the 10 overs mark. Shuvo ended his four over quota with the wicket of dangerous looking Botha. Shakib did well in his next over as he restricted the Irish batsman from hitting another boundary. With Shuvo finishing his quota, Razzak was his replacement and the Bangladeshi manager was depending upon him to give a good performance. Razzak this time couldn't give a economical over as this time it was him who was smashed for three fours. Hasan continued the attack from the other end, the batsman didn't stop the attacking as the run rate of the Ireland was still rising over by over. With someone needing to get the wicket of Niall O'Brien, Razzak gets his second wicket of the game but this didn't stop Cusack from attacking as he continued on hitting fours from the other end. With Hasan's last over left, so far Hasan has been manhandled and has been again smashed for a four by his counterpart but he didn't give up as he took the wicket of Johnston the next ball. McCallan was the new man in and he tried his best in taking Ireland to a good total and he got success as well as he smashed three back to back fours of Shakib's bowling.

With both the spinners finishing their quota of four overs it was time for the pacers to return back to the attack. Now needing to take the last four wickets and also restrict them to a total of below 140, the pacers will try their best here and Rasel just did that. He got his third victim of the game in Cusack, who was looking a danger to the Bangladeshi bowlers. With Cusack going and pressure was again now building up in the Ireland dressing room, Rasel strikes with yet an another one and this time it was McCallan who too was smashing the ball throughout out the ground. Rasel was unsuccessful in getting his first five wicket haul and also couldn't finish the over on a high note as he was smashed for two fours back to back in his last two balls. Alam started of well in his last over as he got his first wicket of the game also but Rankin gave a good finish to Ireland's innings as he hit few fours at the end to take Ireland to a total of 152. It will be a tough chase but can Bangladesh achieve it? Stay tuned.

Tamim shines in Bangla win

_42775973_iqbal416.jpg

Tamim Iqbal scores an unbeaten 70 as Bangla wins by 5 wkts

Bangladesh needing 153 runs to win in order to qualify for the next stage of this edition of the T20 World Cup. Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Shahriar Nafees tried to give a good start to the Bangladesh Innings by hitting some early boundaries and they were successful in doing so. But the hitting didn't continue for very long as Bangladesh lost two wicket in quick succession. First it was the inform opener Nafees who tried to go over the top but couldn't connect it properly as he was caught by the Irish captain, Johnston. Shakib Al Hasan came into the scene next and tried to play a good innings here against the Irish by smashing a four in his first ball but couldn't continue on and he was the next to return to pavilion.

In came Mahmudulla who too didn't last long. He tried to get settled first and then try to hit the balls for fours went out for a duck after few overs. Nazimuddin joined Iqbal in the middle. With pressure on both the batsman as Bangladesh lost 3 quick wickets, both the batsman didn't allow the pressure build up on them as both of them started to hit fours and sixes. Sixes were rare but two or three fours were seen in each over. These two continued until they lost the wicket of Nazimuddin in the 13th over. Former captain, Ashraful joined in next and he took over Nazimuddin from there onwards as he too smashed the ball all throughout the ground. Smashing some huge sixes in the next few overs, Tamim Iqbal and Ashraful was inching towards a comfortable victory against Ireland. With 12 more runs required in the last 4 overs, the Bangladeshi batsman didn't take risk as they started to take singles. Ashraful lost his momentum in the 19th over when he was lbw by Connell for 23 of 18 balls. With just four runs short of their target, Rahim and Iqbal rotated the strike between themselves and cruised Bangladesh to a 5 wicket victory in this close encounter between the two minnows of this world cup.
